Has there ever been a Scottish car manufacturer?
Discussion
I was once told Ascari stood for Anglo-Scottish-CAR-Industries, but i'm sure thats not true.
Also American company Buick was a Scot.
but has there ever been a fully fledged scottish designed/built car?
If not what would it be like...tartan seats, whisky bottle holder, 4-spoke alloys coloured blue & white...

Argyll, with their weird turbo Rover-Buick 3.5 litre V8 mid-engined jobbie in the 80s. I think they also manufactured the Minnow-Fish carburettor.
Another Argyll operated in Glascow from 1900 to 1922ish.
2 marques, both called Scotsman, operated out of Glascow & Edinburgh respectively. (1922/23 and 1929/30)
Albion, quite famous. c1900-1915, trucks until the 70s.
Beardmore, Glascow. Also a pretty famous old marque.
Arrol-Johnston, quite a well known old manufacturer and Aster, not very well known, from Dumfries. Aster was Arrol-Johnston's attempt at producing examples of the French Aster marque in Scotland.
Ferox, from Paisley. Don't know much more about this one.
I don't know much about these old makes either:
Galloway, from Dumfries; Drummond, Dumfries; DL from Motherwell; Gilchrist, Glascow; Stirling, Edinburgh; Werbell, Dundee; WSC, Aberdeen; Rob Roy, Glascow.

yes
One based in Dumfries. Old factory building is still there as one drives by old airfield.
Famous for giving one to the Price of Wales who refused it! Think that brought them down!
Can't recall the name just now!
Despite my age was before my time
Were others who were meant to manufacure but seldom if ever got a model produced. EG Argyll supercars!

The Avenger was also built at Linwood If my menory is correct. We picked up the Peugeot/Talbot Franchise around 1986, and ended up supplying a few parts for local cars, OH, and a shed load of Big Ends and Mains that I bought from Glacier Metal in Kilmarnock, and shipped to the Middle East!
(Why can I remember all this, but struggle to remember what I did last week )
