few pics of project
Discussion
thought i'd post a few pictures of my little project, she's a 400se 44k two owners but got parked up outside for 10yrs. colour is now alloy pearlescent, wheels are a work in progress! new carpets should arrive next week (black), dash and door cards have also been re colonised black and i have a set of mazda RX-8 seats in theory they are narrow enough to fit but need to fabricated new mount for runners.
hi jim no i didn't lift the body, the chassis was strangely in really good nick so just crawled around underneath with wire brush and tin of white hammerite! the only thing i found strange was the outriggers are square tube and rest is round, i know the previous owner well and he bought the car from 4yrs old and never had any chassis work done, must have been a friday afternoon in the factory when built!!!
got to wait til the end of month before Laser have got stock of 10 point sockets before i can tackle wheels. did have semi success with lights today, both light pods go up and down, although drivers side is twice as fast as passenger and goes up and down twice before the passenger side has caught up!

Yep was gonna say my outriggers are square section.
For the record when i was cleaning/waxoyling my chassis earlier in the year i noticed that the area described above the triangular plates at the end of the outriggers was the worse. I think crap collects there as my car has rubber pieces in there between the body mounts. I cleaned it all out and sprayed black waxoyle in there for England!
Jimbo
PS Alex i can post you my rim sockets if it helps you out in case you dont want to wait? My new rim bolts are 12 point so a regular socket fits.

Who did your paint job - looks good.
paint was done by http://www.carbondesign.co.uk/cd/index.php/index.p...guy's name is rob (07711 611880) has done quite a few TVR's for me, always a great colour match and good price. also painted Dan Taylors Chimera, done a nice T350 headlight conversion to a griffith, does work for Kent highperformance (ferrari), GT40 replicas, Facel vega, porsches. he does insurance work as well on TVR's when insurance companies are on the verge of writing someones pride and joy off. Also does replacment outriggers in conjunction with Taylor TVR.

and the winner is..............yes rx8
£100 the pair plus rears (not that they're much use!!) excellent contion with no wear. drivers side comes fully electric but quite heavy and wanted to keep them low as possible so stripped of motors and mounts, made simple frame and tvr slide adjusters

Alex, does the ride height remain the same.....love the seats, but as with all "upgrades" i always fear you would be sitting higher than with originals.
Not a knock (would love to hear NO !!)
What is your experience ?
Gavin
was worried about this too but managed to be within a few mm, mounts for runners are wider apart and seat base is very close to floor. i'm only 5,8 so should be ok lol. in photo seats are not bolted down so may look a little high! Not a knock (would love to hear NO !!)

Is that a real carbon fibre roof - so much lighter than original - or a stick-on?
I have been thinking that the roof and bonnet could be replaced with carbon and save quite a few kg... light is the new horsepower (actually it's the old horsepower - it's rule number 2 in the tuning book I've had for 20 years...)
real carbon but only layed on for show, still stock heavy fibreglass targa panel!I have been thinking that the roof and bonnet could be replaced with carbon and save quite a few kg... light is the new horsepower (actually it's the old horsepower - it's rule number 2 in the tuning book I've had for 20 years...)
almost looks like a car again phew!!!
still need to sort out dash, all gauges are looking very tired and rusty bezels but do seem to work, laminate is totally shot but can sort that. i've considered changing dash and use different dials or refurb original any pics or ideas on who to use for refurb/how much? seen chrome bezels which i like does anyone know where i could source these?
