Clicky clicky..FFS!!!

Hi Peeps...Well after sorting out the fuel pump i get in her this morning and "Click" goes the starter motor..."Click...Click"...Then she fires...Go a few miles..Turn her off...get back in..Turn her on...Nothing..Just.."Click-click"..Bang with heavy tool..Nothing..Wiggle wires...Nothing..Then a van goes past with three lads in so i cadge a bump start..Get her home...Order a new starter...Jack her up..Wheel off...Starter out..Wait till the morning...

I think all the cranking for extended periods the other day when no fuel was getting through finished it off...I was surprised how easy the starter came out..So from now on i shall add to my boot full of tools ...A trolley jack...Wheel brace and Axle stands..Don't know why but my car feels bloody slow......Ziga

Well starting hasn't been an issue up until now..So i hope it was the starter cos its just cost me 140 smackers..I hope that the wires are ok..They look fine but thats no guarantee..Fingers crossed...Ziga

Mark, as I'm sure you know by now, the starters eventually get fried by being so close to the O/S exhaust manifold. It's worth fabricating a heat shield to give it some protection.

Not a bad idea mate but not sure if i have anything adequate right now..Definitely worth doing at some point though...Cheers..

That was nearly an option for me but it was relatively easy to get the old one out..Whether it will be as easy to get the new one in will remain to be seen.

I had that last year Zig new solenoid all sorted, however it's now the same again!
When I had it sorted last year, they said the Soly was full if water!
I'm guessing over the year the same has happened, gonna fit it this weekend hopefully.

I was looking for just the solenoid but didn't want to remove it all only to find that the whole unit might be shyte..Like my luck...

Mine went last week .lucky we have a guy locally that repairs starters and alternators rang he said nine times out of ten its the solenoid.removed solenoid but plungedr inside unhooked its self from the toggle .
Chappie tested solenoid stone dead new one ordered arrived next day £35notes but took me two hours of cursing to get plunger reconnected to toggle motor fine now...

Im hoping i can get the old one refurbed as i used to use a fellow who is old school and is very affordable...Then flea it as i would like to get some pennies back...At least its a tick off the "To do" list...Cheers..Ziga

Just found some of the bonnet heat proofing that i used on Delilah...Gonna make a heat jacket for the starter...Cheaper than paying nearly £40 for the same thing..Should do the job..Woven fibreglass covered in aluminium...

All good...She now starts a lot quicker..Will make the heat proof jacket soon as i couldn't fit it on without the wiring on first...Cheers...Ziga
