Went out in the faithful beast today after it has sat for 5 or 6 weeks. Allowed everything to warm up properly, then a good steady run on the motorway and then off to my fave roads, all being well.

Then developed a strange issue. After giving it some beans for a period of decent road I then dropped down to lower speeed in traffic. At this point it began jumping as if it was missing, put the clutch down and the idle was all over the place, sometimes stalling. After 20 seconds or so all back to normal, could tickle around in the traffic no issues. However, each time after I gave it the beans again the same happened.

Any thoughts of what it could be/what I should look at first? Thought I'd get the plugs out tomorrow and see if they are sooty, perhaps over fueling for some reason?? Could the stepper motor cause this??

Look forward to any ideas

Cheers, David

Thanks for the replies.

Plenty of fuel in the tank, in fact I put some exctra in just in case the gauge was telling porkies. Will check the plugs/stepper and now also the coil and see if anything obvious. If not I guess wait until it it develops a bit more.

Don't think it is timing as it is running well and pulling strong through the rev range all of the time - not missing at all during driving, this is happening for a few seconds after going into slow traffic after spirited driving.

Thanks again for everyone's input and just a quick update.

Took a plug out, looked as it should. Cleaned the stepper motor but to be honest didn't really need it. Then taking the suggestion about the coil, checked all the connections and that the leads were all in properly, all OK and then just because I checked those I did them same at the dizzy end. Found one was quite a lot higher and a little looser than the rest so pushed it back as the others.

Took it for a run, all seemed OK so went for a longer run and the same route as yesterday (any excuse smile) at pretty much the same pace, dropped it off frequently as if stuck in traffic to replicate yesterday, and couldn't get it to repeat what it was doing. Did 30 or so miles and all seems good.

Could it be that simple?? Could I be that lucky smile??? Only real difference to yesterday was it was cooler today
