I have asked this before but not sure we got any kind of definitive answer.

Do we know either exactly or approximately how many 390SE survive today? I believe there is a way of checking how many are on the road and how many are SORN but not sure how you do this if in fact you can.

Going off that information it would seem that as Adam says, it looks pretty difficult to get accurate figures.
Even asking for every owner to come forward on a register would not work as no doubt some folk would prefer to stay private, some would never even come across this request and etc, etc.
Maybe the closest we would get is a real good educated guess from folks that have been on hear for some while and have a good knowledge of wedges and how many have they have come across over the years recognizing the same ones at wedge fests etc etc. Did i say someone who has been on hear a while with knowledge Adam?smile

I think i have only had one in the Wedge calendars over the past 4 years...None in the BNG2012 Wedge calendar with girls...Hopefully this will change...So anyone with a 390SE who hasn't been in a Wedge calendar yet get snapping...(That includes you Steve..smile )
I'll be on it when needed Zig.

If you look at http://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/tvr_missing#!...
it shows some pretty random stuff really including a 10l beast, and something with a mower engine.

This row gives the on road vs SORN figures:

3900cc to 3999cc 135 140

Maybe that's what you're looking for?
Adam, as you said before though, wouldn't this include the 400's? as there where only 100 or so built originally I can't imagine there being a large number 390's left, by the way did any of these built go abroad?

Come on who's going to guess at a figure?smile

I remember seeing a pink 390SE driving through the centre of Stockhollm (Sweden not Wisconsin) around 1987, it fair took my breath away as it rumbled past at very low revs.

Many of the early 390SEs were registered by the factory as 3495cc capacity not 3905cc, I haven't changed mine (but I do tell the insurance co.)

Russ
Not sure we can count this one if you only saw it back in 87, it probably hasn't survived and being pink shouldn't have done!! eek

Still no one guessing at numbers!

Should I start something and see how far we getbiggrin

Just off the top of my head in my short time on here this is what I think I know of:
Mine of course.
Maston.
Smash (if he still has it).
The one in Queensland
The one for sale in Guernsey.
Wedg1e
PK 500
Metallic red one, been for sale in wales for a while.
Early white one, I believe in Classic cars shortly.
Red one that was at BBWF this year, forgive me name escapes at mo but jump in.

That's a starter for TEN, I know of a couple more I think but can't think immediately.

Come on, add to it, lets give it a go, remember they have to be known to still exist!

I think that data is about as vague as any other, don't you. After all didn't they only make 106 390'S? and this includes the 420's etc. I must be missing something also as don't see where this is totally related to wedges! I'm sure I saw something on here not too long ago about the amount of 400's left anyway and that didn't reach 135 did it?

With Nige, we are up to 12, I'll mail the rest on the owners page and see if we can get confirmation but fear as said, we will be a way off the truth but it does beg the question - where are they?
I would have though anyone owning one would visit these pages from time to time, where else can you get info and assistance from other than the tvrcc. Would a large enough contingency of wedge owners from the tvrcc not visit these pages enough for it to make such a difference? Which reminds me must sort membership and give it a go.

Not necessarily; not everyone's computer literate even in this day and age (and someone in middle-age 20 years ago might well have a 390 they're not fit enough to drive and have no need to put back on the road... there are any number of possibilities
Some cars might well be owned by people who are mechanically capable and have no need to ask where bits came from or can be sourced - or they have a trusted garage that looks after their car.
I own lots of 'old things' apart from my car and if they break I don't automatically go on the internet looking for a 'user group' for them.
Maybe true Ian but at the moment there seems to be more of this kind of owner than than the forum or club owner enthusiast owner, which is the bit that's harder to comprehend.
I think cars on the road would be spotted at some time or other but as you say, a lot could very well be packed away by folk who have no need or even interest at the moment to put back on the road.
Any way we are up to 13 at the moment with Andy, come guys we don't want to be stuck on that number.

Maybe they are too busy driving the nuts off them to bother with such frivolity....

;^)
You could be right Adam but if they were having the nuts driven off them we would see them!
Maybe that's what I should do and forget this campaign but I have the bit between my teeth and feel I am on a mission for the sake of wedgedome, Queen and country, all of mankind. Not really just curioussmile

Any way I have replies from another 2 in the wedge owners pages (off the road) so we are up to 15 now.

Doesn't look like it is on the road at the moment mate unless you have spare bits! Good luck with the work if that's the case.

Still counts though so we are up 17 by my reckoning.

I think we will obviously struggle to get anywhere near the numbers I would have guessed at surviving so maybe we should change the post to "known by the forum" surviving 390SE's, that way we can't be wrong.

Add mine to the list, it's alive and kicking although doesn't kick as often as I'd like due to always being busy with the family. There's been a few 390s over the years that have come on here and then disappeared, most notably Brap_Brap who documented the shipping over to Canada and then the thorough rebuild. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to how many are still around, probably have more of a chance of winning the lottery biggrin.
Cheers Kim,

we are now at the dizzy heights of 18 spin

Sorry meant to get back to you sooner - mr zig is right i still have my 390SE and DIB350 has just bought the other 390 from up here.

Thanks John, that should be 21 I thinks but will check when back off holiday.
In Southern France, awesome roads with hardly any traffic, wish I could have come in the wedge, although mortgage would be needed for fuel!
