Finally got around to looking for the cause of the passenger window occasionally detaching from the lower channel - not a pretty sight, but I think it's the original, so no real surprise. Based on some earlier threads, it appears that the Range Rover Classic front door channels are the same - they look it from the Rimmers website:

Can anyone confirm that these do actually fit please? In addition, the rubber that hold the glass inside the channel needs replacing - again, I've seen reference to a couple of items at Woolies, but these appear to be for the vertical window channels, rather than the horizontal channel that the window rests in. On my car, this appears to be simply a flat section of rubber, rather than a shaped section, which has merely been folded to fit into the channel. Again looking at Rimmers, their rubber for this channel also appears to be flat. Anyone done this job before? Thanks

OK, got the Rangie versions, and they are quite a bit different:

Not so concerned about the lengths, but the channels. The window channel at its narrowest point where it's crimped is about 3mm narrower than the original, so there is no way to fit the window (4mm) plus the 2mm rubber (x2 for the fold) into it without risking breaking the glass - 8mm total width going into a 6.5mm channel. I suppose I could ease the channel out a bit, but for me the bigger problem is the channel that the balls from the motor arms fit into. The balls are barely held in (by maybe 1mm)because it's so tall, and the depth of the channel is way too shallow for the balls - by maybe 5mm, so there's a real risk that the balls will pop out of the channel.
All in all, not very suitable. I think the next step is to speak to the guy who did a great repair on my seat base about fabricating some new ones. Will post up the results.
