I changed the oil the other day on the 350SE and the sump plug size was larger than I'd expected. I managed to take it off using an adjustable spanner, then put it back and forgot to measure it for size. I want to buy a socket piece to make things easier and safer for next time. Does anyone have any idea offhand what the sump plug size might be?
Thanks in advanced for any info.

I have two large decent socket sets that I tought would cover just about every size I would ever need, unless you're dismantling an oil rig. However, it seems not. It's definitely not 3/4 inch as I know it is well over an inch, probably more like 1 and 3/4 inch as this plug is big. Which is what surprised me when I started doing the job. I know it's done now and I won't need it until next time, but it's nice to have the right size socket in my set. I remember once changing a clutch on a mini and I had to buy a huge socket I believe was for the center nut or something. This also looks quite a large size. Any ideas gents? If not, I'll just have to get dirty again, slip under the car and get measuring.

Tony, as previously suggested, it is indeed 1 1/8" socket size you need. Just double checked as I replaced my sump plug a couple of years back with an SH version, but kept the old one in my spares box.
Thanks for all the replies gents. I have a large witworth socket that loosely fitted over the sump plug but I didn't want to chance it. I will measure against that tomorrow to see if 1 1/8 is close. If it is, then that must be the right size and will save me going under the car again. I need to buy the right socket as I don't like using adjustables just incase they slip off and damage the nut.
