I only wanted to change the fuel filter!

Removed the fuel filter and whilst it was off the mounting bracket, decided to rub down and paint the bracket to remove surface rust and loose paint, then i thought why stop there, so decided to rub down and paint the chassis tube that the bracket is welded to, then i though why stop there and decided to inspect the fuel line going into the sill, then i thought why stop there.....




The good news is the tube is decent nick with only surface rust, so a good couple of hours should see it good enough to treat and paint.

Now then, is it recommended to change the copper fuel pipe while i am this far in? if so - st/st, copper, or flexi all through? I will be changing the return pipe also but this will be a pain as it is flexi running full length, right to the n/side tank.

Mark, I blame the wife for going to the supermarket which meant i could go in the garage and finish off - or so i thought

The copper pipe is definitely the feed as there is a short flexi at the rear that connects to the fuel filter outlet and i have traced the return all the way back. I'll definitely be changing both but just wondered what is best?

Is it definitely the saej30R9 I should be replacing with or is the R6 suitable?

Anyone know where I can get the correct st/st pipe as an option?

Also is there any detriment to running both lengths in the sill, in either the st/st or in the flexi hose.

Sorry for questions but want to try and get whatever the choice is to complete the work at weekend.

Stu, does this stuff not have the so called issues associated with ethanol, as some of the posts I have read on standard copper pipe? or are these stories exaggerated, as the copper that is presently on has lasted the 27 years to date.

I think I'll measure up tonight and get some conifer and J30 R9 on order, might as well do it right now I've plunged in.
