Well after a terrible day it would seem to be the end of my long 18 year love affair with TVR Wedges. After a long wait to get the front of the car resprayed and minor repairs I was lucky to walk away from an accident today. Driving along at about 20 mph in traffic when a idiot in a Focus drove full pelt into the back of the Gredge.... He hit me so hard that he pushed the car into the rear of a Mercedes in front. Really shuck up after such a hard impact but was ok.

Given the fixed value of the car and the amount of the damage, I expect the car to be written off. So my feeling is that given that I was expecting to move abroad for my early retirement at the end of year my TVR journey is now at an end earlier than expected. Clearly we will see what the repairs are likely to be but experience tells me that there is close to £4 - 5K which will be over the repair threshold on my value / insurance.

So a sad day and after the inital rage of a boy racer in a Focus hitting the car, and realising that I was lucky to just be shuck up, reflection says that it is time to hang up my TVR keys and move on.

Here is the sad pictures:

Thanks for the comments guys .... appreciated.

The front ...

Not too bad given its just been repaired and sprayed...

The key here is that it can be repaired I am sure, but I have no doubt that the cost will be over the repair threshold. so end of line I guess. We will see what the quotes are and take it from there.

Thanks Wyn I will see what my options are once the red mist has cleared. Its a long way for me as I am based in Kent but thnks for the info. As mentioned my guess it will be a financial write off as the guaranteed value is £6K so anything over 50-60% of value is a write off for the insurance company. Although the rear bumper, front bumper and valance can be replaced via TET parts the labour and paint will be significant I am guessing. I think the chassis is ok but the two things that concern me at the moment is that the main tub between the rear lights looks like its moved as the boot does not loock now and the complete tub seems to have shifted on the chassis so I am expecting the worse. Just put the car away as I cannot bear to look at it at the moment.

Thanks for the comments guys appreciated. Not a lot to report, good news is that the car and driver who hit me are fully insured. Insurance company dealing with it now so at the moment until the inspection of my car is completed there is nothing to do but wait. Many thanks to those that have contacted me for the good advice when it comes to decision making and repairs. At the moment I cannot bare to look at the car so she is locked away and will come out when it's time for inspection. I am not going to fret about the may be's until they say yes or no to the repairs.

Thanks again and I will report in when there is some news.

Well a quick update guys ....

Looks like the car is destined for the parts pile as the cost of repairs is in excess of £7k plus any other issues they find.

Got to say that the Insurance assessor was at the car for 18 mins tops .... so I expect any day to be told that it is uneconomical to repair.

I could buy the car as Cat D repair or sell off the parts but to be honest I do not want the hassle / stress, or watch as the parts get sold off. So as expected my TVR journey is over and time to move on. Just got to negotiate the best price for the car.

So thanks to all for comments, support and advice, I will pop in to the forum from time to time but good luck to everyone and have a great Fest this year yes

Hi Stuart - Nope my TVR ownership is finished I am afraid, its not worth me getting another given my plans for the end of year fella! Time moves on with experiences and sometimes you have to look at things with your head not your heart!

Thanks Ron I am sure there might be, but it needs to be understood that there would be the cost of the car (The Gredge engine alone is 4K) plus the repairs, so it would not be a small £ undertaking for a cat D car but who knows we will see .....

Well I thought it was time for a quick update on the demise of the "Gredge"

Good news ..... after much coming and going - threatening with the insurance omsbudsman and legal action, LV have done the right thing and agreed to repair the car, so no Cat D write off etc etc.

The car has gone off to reputable glass fibre repairer and spray shop and is now under anaesthetic for some time.

So we might see her by the first week in Jul if I get lucky... yes

Many thanks all - appreciated .... its been a long journey but got there in the end.

So if all goes well I will have the car repaired with new bumpers front and rear (Thanks to Glen!) a complete respray, vented 400SE bonnet, bespoke SS Griff 500 ported manifolds and the latest Firmware for the ECU.... I may even find my missing 15BHp to get into the 300 club!
