Reversing on full lock this morning, pulling away from the garage I heard a very unpleasant grinding/knocking from the n/s front. Thought maybe the dip in the driveway had caused a tyre to rub against a chassis rail (it gets close on full lock) but it happened again on a flat road later on. Made me a little afraid to park!

There's nothing visibly loose, no noise while driving forward. Has anyone had this before? Any Ida's what it could be?

Thanks for all the replies.

Suspension was rebuilt in August so I wasn't expecting any unexpected problems. It's definitely coming from the front - more a loud knocking noise, no obvious play in the bearing. I'm going to have a better look in daylight next weekend.

Maybe the Tas is saying "sell me"?

Or maybe I consider how much £ I've poured in over the years and jump ship

I'm sure that's 'not' what she's saying... Maybe just a little reminder "fix me & I will in turn give you back your grin" biggrin

Had a similar problem/noise years ago on my old 400SE which turned out to be seized rear drive shaft uj's.. Get her front up & check all joints, bushes, bearings etc..

Turned out to be a bit of a false alarm. Tyre occasionally rubs against the leading edge of the sill, where it wraps round into the wheel arch. Not happened in 19 yrs of ownership, and only occurs on an uneven road. Looking again at clearance on full lock, I'm surprised people can fit larger tyres on, I'm on 205s and it's very close.

But now another glitch has returned - the lying fuel gauge.

I've had a new sender a few years ago - probably long enough ago for it to fail again.

For a couple of years the gauge has run down to just below half and then stopped there - now it stops at 3/4 full. It was looking suspiciously economical until the truth dawned on me, luckily near a filling station that I just got to in time as it started to cough.
