Me and a friend are going to knock up a copy of the Griff/Chim polished alloy roof struts/stays.

Was wondering whether anyone else would be interested in a pair if they come out well, going to try and get them as close to original as possible.

We think with time, materials and tooling they would be about £200 which I think is less than originals?

Thoughts?

I'd be interested; are you planning to make them adjustable in length or fixed?

The wedge roof stays are different to the griff/chim ones (steel rectangular tube vs solid(?) aluminium); I don't know if they are interchangeable, maybe someone can confirm?
They will be solid aluminium and polished

Couldn't you just nick some off a Chim? If you replaced the Chim's one with solid bars that didn't fold, the owner would never notice anyway...
Well that would just be to easy ....

Going to have a go at some mock up's for fitment the go for the end item. Will post some pics as we go then if anyone wants the end product then all good for the forum community.

If you want to sell them...reduce your price by 50%. £200 is way too much money IMO.
I would not usually rise to such a comment "IN YOUR OPINION" BUT

I am not making them to sell them I am making them because I want a set and they are expensive as originals. A lot more than £100. To make them requires time, materials, prototypes and new tooling, where I live nothing is free.

Having made them if anyone else would like a set thats purely their decision.

If however you can make them for £100 then knock your socks off GV and front up a set for the world to see?

Fitted the mock up today. Looking good, straight into the existing mounts and works a treat. My camera on my phone is S*** but here we go.

The dowell pins will be replaced with smooth head ones. Two types of finish on this one, polished and matt. Mine will be matt as the polished ones will be a nightmare to avoid finger marks. Thoughts are £175 matt £200 polished.

Email me if your interested and from here on will converse directly with those interested. andyeley@gmx.com

For those who have emailed me for these you will hear from Tom at Mtech very shortly go get the ball rolling for yours.

My finished product will be here Tuesday I will post some pictures

He does have the original mock up that if you wanted to size up on your own car you could have for a couple of days on a refundable deposit basis.

So the final product is in and installed. Have to say its a proper piece of craftmanship and Tom at M-Tech who has done the machining has excelled himself.

If anyone else would like any drop Tom an email directly

m-tech.eng@hotmail.co.uk

Good news all round really as if you dont want them now you can get them in the future as he has the specs required.

Cheers all..
