Me and Mrs Garyhun have decided to move from Poole to be nearer parents who are in Yorkshire (Leeds area) and Amersham Bucks respectively. Basically trying to find somewhere in the middle.

We have been looking around Rutland and Leicestershire but are also now considering Norfolk (have spent time up on the N Coast around Wells next the Sea and Blakeney which we love).

A good location from access to both parents seems Kings Lynn or thereabouts so was wondering what the area was like or where we should look during our scouting trips.

We're looking for a village with a nice pub/restaurant to walk to, lovely countryside for walks and a town/city within 20 mins or so.

All ideas welcome smile

Thanks
Gary

Cheers Darren, that is really helpful.

It was actually 2010 I think that I asked and then I found a plot of land so stayed put to build as that had been a very long time dream.

Now that's done and sold after enjoying it for a while, the move is back on!!

Ideally looking for a barn conversion or something with character so your post is really helpful.

Cheers again
Gary

We're travelling up every few weeks at the moment to get a feel for general areas. Once we have a good feel for the general, well move up and rent and then start to get more specific. Currently renting in Poole until end of June so will make the initial move then

Regarding your last point - scary that 5 years has gone so fast. Makes you realise that life is for living!

Thanks Guys - I'm only using KL as a start point as it's the biggest closest thing to Yorkshire to do easy travel time calculations. I have no need to be near to it specifically.

As a said, going to rent for 6 months so exact location for that is not crucial but the more info from you guys the better.

Budgens you say scratchchin

Quick resurrection - is Wisbech a nice area or not?

from the posts above I cannot calculate the 'piss take' factor accurately smile

We've seen a property in the area (Specifically Gull Drove) we like online so before we make a journey would be good to get accurate feedback.

Cheers

Good lord - the "3.142 Key" capital of the fens!!!

I think it still has a banger racing circuit that's about the only good thing I can think of and I'm not that keen on banger racing......
Cheers!

Thanks to kg55, darren f, Konan and B'stard - much appreciated.

We've spent a lot of time on the N coast (Wells, Blakeney etc) and LOVE it up there. We're coming up from Poole which has the beautiful Sandbanks and Studland beaches but we still are amazed at the Norfolk N coast. A drive there, rather than being up there, is just what we're looking for.

We're big walkers so a 35 minute walk to a pub is no issue at all for us smile We also love cycling, non mountain mountain bikers iykwim wink

We do want access to nice pubs and restaurants but 'night life' such as the major Towns is not our scene any more. At 52, although very active, we're more likely to enjoy a nice restaurant or house party than a nightclub!!!

Cheers again chaps!!!

PS. If anyone wants to comment on where these are I am all ears - these are the 2 properties we're going to look at:

Many thanks again for all the replies - you really do not know how much it is appreciated. Maybe a beer if we get sorted beer

Cheers crofty, acf and Grandad Gaz - much appreciated.

Saw both properties today - the cottage is a little too remote for us but we really like the Fakenham house.

Much thinking to be done smile

On further investigation, the Fakenham house turns out to back onto Ernest DOE Power, who sell and service a lot of heavy duty agricultural and construction machinery. It's so close that, although I heard nothing on my two visits to the house on Friday and Saturday, it is a little concerning. Anyone know much about them?

You can see the Ernest DOE depot at top middle in the below link. The house is directly below with the small pool in the garden.

I've popped in to the shop front to buy bits before. I can't say I've noticed much in the way of noise whilst I was there but it's not like I visit often enough to be certain.... I might have missed them whacking bits of combine with a hammer.

I always got the impression that the Fakenham branch did more in the way of parts and equipment supply than service, and a lot of big agricultural stuff is mobile service. They appear to have more showroom floor space than workshop.

Is there any nosing around or info I could get for you?
As I said, we heard nothing on the two visits so you are probably right. The owners were very up-front and said you get some noise during the day on some week days but it's good to get local info.

The EA is finding out more as she knows someone who works there supposedly, but if you can get any other information that would be great.
