PHEA Run - Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Run - May 10th
Discussion
Hi All
Yes it is happening!! Sorry for the delay in getting this sorted, it is due to technical reasons.
So it's time for our annual pilgrimage to Aldeburgh to sample their lovely fish'n'chips and some great hooning roads along the way.
The date of the run is Sunday the 10th of May
Everyone is welcome regardless of what they drive, even nutters on motorbikes!! This is one of the biggest events of the PHEA calendar with between 80-100 cars in attendance.
Run Details
There are a few starting points you can choose from, Cambridge, Thetford or Stowamrket. The Cambridge and Thetford groups will drive cross country and meet up at Stowmarket and then we'll all drive onwards to Aldeburgh in small groups.
Start point (A) Thetford - Sainsbury Car park
Departure time - 9am
Led by Darren (iluvmercs)
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Sainsbury%27s+...
Start point (B) Cambridge - Tesco Car park
Departure time - 8:30am
Led by me
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Tesco+Cambridg...
We'll then drive to Stowmarket to meet everyone else.
Start Point (C) Stowmarket - Tesco Car park
Departure time - 10:30am
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Stowmarket+Sup...
(all three meeting points have petrol stations)
We'll then all drive to Aldeburgh in smaller groups and hopefully get there by 12:00 (ish)
We'll park at the North end of town in the Thrope Road Car park (pay and display, space for 240 cars £2.00 for 4 hours, £3 for all day)

Once there you are you are free to do whatever you like There are two Fish'n'Chip shops in Aldeburgh both owned by the same people. One is at the South end of town, the other is on the High Street (this one has a restaurant as well). All the shops are open on a Sunday too. The chip shops are rather popular and do have quite a queue sometimes
****I am however going to need a few volunteers****
The volunteers are needed to lead small groups on the run from Stowmarket to Aldeburgh. The route is really easy to follow and full paper and TomTom maps will be provided. I'm going to lead one group and Darren another but depending on how many cars sign up we may need 2-3 more leaders. Put your name down and/or PM me.
There will also be the PHEA Annual Awards!!!

Just to echo Darren's comments, I had a really good day with a load of great people.
Firstly thanks to Darren, Dave, Nick, Mick, Ade and Ian for leading the various groups, I don't think we lost too many people
Appologies to those in the Cambridge group for the slight detour, I gave my sat nav to Nick so I had to remember to route, which I obviously didn't do very well!!!
Lots of people out enjoying the sunshine (including a few hundred cyclists, the West Suffolk Classic car club and aload of vintage Bentleys) but we didn't get held up too much
All feedback appricated on the organisation or route (somebody mentioned the pace was a bit too quick, I forgot to say in the brief that there was a slower group uyou could go in so appologies). Also I spoke to the guy at Tesco and he has asked that we get permission form the store manager next year, so in case he says no, does anyone know of an alternative site we coud park up in?
PS who owned the KTM? I followed it for a bit on the way home. It sounded fantastic!!

i mark, the only comment I could have is that the cars should go in bigger groups, well at least not in small groups like we did from cambs. Maybe 20-30 cars per group?
Really? Can I ask why? My experience with large groups is that it quickly turns in to a slow procession or people get separated and lost. I think Darren had about 20 in his group and soon lost half of them.Gassing Station | East Anglia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
