I'm thinking of bringing a kit car in from the UK. I'm wondering which shipping companies people have used to ship cars to NZ that are UK based. I want to try all available companies to see who can give me the best deal, as it's actually just going to be a big car sized wooden box, so probably isn't going to be too easy to move about.

Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated aswell as approximate cost of your exercise if it's not asking too much too please.

I'm making sure I get a bit of research done first so hopefully won't have any nasty surprises.

Nice thanks, I like the look of the movecube, the large size is about right for the body and chassis. I'll have to check the dimensions I was given by the manufacturer, But they only do AKL and WLG, I'm in CHC. Shouldn't be too hard to get down here though.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for it. Just checked the container size the kit car manuf quoted, it's a bit bigger than their largest movecube, but I'm sure they can do something. Will get in contact with Seven Seas soon.

Cool, that's all good info, I'll be emailing them all after work tonight to look for quotes. It's just going to be a big wooden box full of bits loosely resembling the car to start with. There's still tax on the lot to allow for too.

I'm looking at a Lister Bell Lancia Stratos replica, with any luck it won't be too far off, but worst case a bit of overtime and a few more months I should have enough to go ahead with it. The beauty is that you can order as much or as little as you like, so I thought I'd get the big bits that would be expensive to send all in the main shipment, and anything smaller can come at a later date as funds allow.

Thanks for your replies, I've emailed the companies listed above and will wait for those from the other time zone to get back to me. Koru came back with a good quote very quickly, and it's nice that they're local too.

Thanks, fingers crossed it all works out, I don't get excited about these things until they're in my garage. But I've been lusting after the Stratos for years and years....and years. Still trying to decide on red or green though, it changes daily, decided against a rally replica, was keen on the 75 Monte scheme but I think the Stradale is the way to go.

It's a 40th birthday/midlife crisis/divorce/second wedding present to myself. biggrin

Order made and deposit paid! Turns out they use a company that's local to them, they take the kit components away, crate them up and send them off. Pretty reasonable too. They've had a few kits go to Australia, I'll be the first of theirs to NZ. Should be here mid to late November.

I love the green and I love the 75 Monte Carlo colours but I've gone for red. I don't think I'll fit the spoilers to start with, I may even try to go for the prototipo look as it makes me feel all funny.

should be here mid November

Anyway after a long wait it's not tooo far off being shipped, just the body work to complete. Here are a couple of pics, chassis and exhaust (the best looking bits). More to follow.

Thanks very much, I've got the shipping sorted now, the hardest part will be getting it from the port to my place. It's going to all be in one very big box.
