Hello lady's & gents,

Just back from the first Hare breakfast meet of 2015 and despite the chilly wet weather, the die hards were out in force and yet again we had a great turnout of cars from all walks of life.

Many will know that The Hare breakfast meet is an absolutely superb morning out for petrol heads and a great social day in our monthly calendar. The meet has however largely become a victim of its own success and there has been much criticism over parking and certain more "common" cars being turned away from the main carpark by the owner to allow space for the more special cars.

I personally think that all the cars that go are special in one way or other and in many cases the owners have spent much time money and sweat over their pride and joy. We all appreciate all things fast, classic, tuned or rare.

We also know that the carpark does get full very quickly and those of us that want a space in the carpark get there early to avoid disappointment.

The management has since said that the meet has been successful because of the special supercars that turn out and the kind of hyper expensive/rare machinery you don't see every day. However, due to the difficulties parking many of the Supercar owners no longer attend because they cannot get a space in the carpark and do not want to try and shoehorn their £200k+ cars in between people who have parked irresponsibly or are taking up space in their daily hack.

The meet works well because of the eclectic mix of everything petrol, but largely it's the supercars the team behind The Hare work so hard to put the meet on for.

So starting from next months meeting, Saturday 2nd May.

There will be a Supercar ONLY paddock in the gravel area.

This will be closed to everyone but supercars and hyper expensive classics. A "mini Goodwood" if you will. This will be reserved for those cars only until 9am. After 9am, any spaces thereafter will be opened up to the rest of the regulars to fill.
This way, there will be an area for supercars to park IF they make the effort to get there by a designated time.
We ALL know what supercars are, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLarens, Zondas etc. So pleased do not be offended if you're requested not to park in the Supercar paddock if you do not arrive in that level of machinery. This will be incredibly difficult to police for those involved but hopefully with everyone's cooperation it will be of benefit to everyone.

There will be additional parking attendants who will be directing cars and will kindly request that you respect their directions on where you're asked to park.

Parking should be responsible so as to allow as many cars in as possible and not to park across multiple spaces. The more responsibly you park, the more people we can welcome in.

In the past i have been the first to criticise how the vetting of vehicles is done, but it's obvious to me that The Hare team have no easy task running the events and want nothing more than them to be successful for everyone, no matter what vehicle you arrive in. It's impossible to please everyone ALL of the time but with a little bit of cooperation from everyone, they will have a damn good go.

So, there you have it.

Starting next month, Saturday 2nd May, The Hare, Roxwell will have a Supercar ONLY paddock reserved until 9am. (The gravel area)

Let's hope the sun shines for the event and look forward to it being a superb morning for everyone.

Many thanks,

Frayz

Guys for the record I agree with everyone's comments above. I can't diagree with any of it. However it's not my event and not my rules.
I love the meet as much as all of you, however I'm not prepared to criticise without offering to help be part of a solution.
Hence why I was asked to try and help man the cars coming in and directing them. The management want to see the mega money Supercars. Personally I have more interest in a car painstakingly built rather than bought. But I have to say I may not like all the cars there, but without doubt I apprecaite every damn one of them.

It's all too easy to point and criticise, but they want Supercars. So that's what we will try and give them. I personally feel that if you want a space and you're a true petrolhead then get up early like everyone else.

However this way, the rich boys get an opportunity to show up on time.
Next month if the gravel area has half a dozen cars in it and the rest is overspilling, then maybe the idea will have to be reconsidered.

I love the Hare and want to continue to enjoy going for the social with my friends and to have a natter over all things piston related.
For the record, my Supercar baiting home built Impreza will be sat on the bench with the rest of the peasants. biggrin

To clarify.

Approx 1/3 of the carpark is a gravel area. The rest is tarmac. It's all part of the same carpark, however the management want to try and keep a section clear for the Supercars. Ferrari, McLarens, Lambos etc. That's all.

I realise I've put myself in the firing line here, but I'm trying to offer some help to them. They asked me to post it here as I frequent this forum regularly, and know many of the monthly attendees do too.

I think this is a topic many people have an opinion of and many good worthwhile ideas.
Maybe share those ideas with the management there?

I've got big shoulders mate. So I'm not worried.

I also know you guys well, and you all know me well enough to know this isn't the way I would do things.
You know that I'm clearly a messenger trying to help rather than just point the finger.

I was as much upset to see genuine petrolheads in proper drivers cars get asked to park elsewhere and I was the first to express my distaste of it. However If I disagree with something I will say, however when asked to help, I also find it hard to say no.
I don't think people should critisise without being willing to be part of a solution themselves. In all honesty who am I to decide if a car deserves to be parked where? I'm just a regular bloke who's spent 10 years pouring time, effort and money building a road going rally car in his garage.

Personally I don't think this is the absolute solution, but it's a middle ground. Failing that, they say the meet is a Supercar only meet and the management can stand out front vetting the incoming traffic and wallet size themselves.

Personally I'd rather speak to true petrolheads than some guy sporting the latest on trend Supercar because he is wealthy enough to afford the curb candy.

However I'm willing to try and help everyone because I'm a petrolhead who just loves cars and these type of events.

I think the management think people only want to see Supercars where in reality it's the mix that all of is bread and butter guys go for.

I had 3 different people (none of which I know) stop and ask me about the Subaru yesterday, and I wasn't even in it. All because they had followed it on here and had taken an interest.

People who love cars, love cars no matter what. Those who are only interested in the latest Supercar off the generic Supercar production line I fear may be somewhat blinkered. If 10 new Huracans or 458s turn up, they will all be the same as the next one.

However I also think we should step back and take a look at how this will actually affect us regular folk who go:

The gravel area holds about 25 cars or so. Those spaces will only be held until 9am. Are we actually going to see 25 proper so called Supercars before 9am? I highly doubt it.
So therefore the spaces will be open as usual thereafter.
So I suspect many normal folk arriving at 9am or shortly after will have a nice space saved for them amongst the 5 or 6 generic Supercars Haha. biggrin

Seems to me that certainly everyone here (Pistonheads) has the same idea.

We go for a social, bit of breaky and enjoy the special built cars rather than the so called Supercar candy. As do I, and I can't disagree with a single comment here. Personally I poured over the Paul Stephens 2.7 RS recreation for ages and didn't give a second glance to either McLarens to be honest.

I honestly don't think the management want to upset anyone and think they want to keep it the great event that it is, I'm just not so sure they know the right way to go about it.

As said though, how much will this REALLY affect any of us?

Unless a sea of the latest exotica arrives at double early doors, I doubt it will change anything.

Personally that's more special than any exotica to me. Those are the sorts of cars I go to see.

The latest Aventrarri12D just isn't my thing.

Does anyone actually want a spot on the gravel anyway?

I hate the stuff, gets stuck in your tyres and means you can't get out for ages once it gets busy.

GT3 is a sports car more than a Supercar in my eyes. The best damn one of the lot and way more desirable to me than a 458 or Macca.

GT3 is the holy grail of pure drivers cars In my opinion. smile

Gutted I never even made it, and I was supposed to help out too, so apologies for that.
Basically got called up last night by a mate who I hadn't seen since 2009.

Said I'd meet him for a beer and well... That's where it all went wrong. Lol.

I was the guy accepting the challenge of organising the parking. No one, repeat no one was turned away until the main park was full and only 4 or so spaces remained in the gravel area down the centre. My aim was to allow a mix and that it what happened I believe. Within a short time the whole place was completely full and the few spots were taken by the Diablo, McLaren SLR, a F 430 and another Lambo. Cars I think everyone enjoyed having there.

So it was from that point quite simple. If you arrived a little later you would not get parked and as a side issue, if you were in, then you were not going anywhere very soon, which people accepted in good humour.

I have been attending for tha last 4 years and have missed I think only 3 months, so I have seen a fantastic selection of cars attend and made a few friends along the way.

Frankly the bigger job was stopping parking in dangerous places so that the event remains possible. To that end, the young guys in the C63 doing but outs were not welcome and I told them to leave.

The caterham guys have been stalwarts since the start as have many of the Porsche guys.. The fact is the whole thing is possible because Gary the pub owner makes it so. Many people have been through in that time and many come back most months. Gary asked me to help and I am happy to do so.

Let's hope it can be as good again next month.
From the sounds of things it was a job well done too. smile

Superb meet as always helped by some superb weather.
Carpark in my opinion was very well directed yet again and had a fantastic eclectic mix of machinery.

458 speciales... Common as muck around here. biggrin
