Evening all,

My 10yr old middle offspring has recently started learning the electric guitar, and has become totally hooked on it. Getting him to practice was a nightmare until he actually managed to play his first piece (the intro to Smoke on the water) but since then, we can hardly get him off the guitar! smile

To encourage him further, I thought I'd see if I could find somewhere relatively inexpensive to take him along to enjoy some live music, but I'm not sure where to take him, so I thought I'd see if anyone on here had any ideas?

Given that we've got a finite entertainment budget, I'd rather take him to see a cover bands one weekend per month rather than one real band once a year, and fortunately, at least as far as I'm concerned, he has developed an exceptional taste in music, so the more the better as far as I'm concerned! hehe

The sort of things on his playlists include Led Zep, Clapton, the Stereophonics, White Stripes, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, the Killers, Fallout Boy, Cream, Blink 182 etc, etc...

Any suggestions on where to take him? Regular venues, weekend festivals, whatever. Ideally somewhere I can get a decent pint whilst we're there, but the main priority is that they're welcoming to 10yr olds! smile

Knowing where you are might help....

Anyway, this is a great family festival - http://underthestarsfest.co.uk/about/
I posted this in Thames Valley & Surrey for a reason, you know! wink

I'm actually in Epsom, but happy to go with Surrey, Hants, Berks, Sussex, Kent, London.... Ideally the bits of those closer to Surrey though. Dover, Enfield or Newbury would be pushing it a bit!

The Boiler Room in Guildford is a pretty good venue, very good natured, great fun, great bands and can be cheap:

A mate suggested that, but looking on the website, unfortunately it looks like all the gigs are 16+. frown

This is on again and by all accounts is a good little festival aimed at a younger crowd
