Buckle up guys, yours in for a long ride!
I cannot believe they are now doing the same to to the M4 as the M3.
You can pretty much bet the 5 years will slip too.
Yay.

I hope they don't plan on setting up continuous roadworks from Theale to Hayes.
I'm would imagine that's EXACTLY what they are planning.

Assuming the roadworks on the M3 are finished on schedule (which I doubt) there will be 3 months with both major routes into London from the South East with major roadwork disruption.

5 years (minimum) of roadworks on the M4 - what joy.
They were scheduled to finish in July this year.

Excellent timing from all concerned by the looks of it to add maximum annoyance for annoying heading London bound. The M3 still has at least 15 months left to run on that after the numerous push backs on completion date there, so that's a minimum of a year overlap with the M4.

Plus, aren't they starting the reconstruction of The Meadows r/bout quite early in 2017 too? I'm sure that will take just as long as the one in Basingstoke did, with the obligatory 6+ month delays banghead
The Meadows roundabout will be the breaker for me i think. It will be horrendous and the knock-on affect will be hell.
frown
15 weeks starting imminently I believe.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the powers that be did a little "joined up thinking" ie: started this AFTER the M3 works were complete?
Any idea what they are doing at the Meadows?

Yeah I noticed earlier this week that the obligatory yellow plaques, attached to streetlights, have appeared on the dual carriageway approaching The Meadows saying that 15 weeks of "preparation" work and lane closures are evidently meant to start along there next week banghead

I believe the original plan was to wait for the M3 completion as The Meadows work was originally scheduled to start early this year but got pushed back for additional consultation and because the M3 works were, at that time, rescheduled to be finished by the end of 2016 - but of course, as we know now, that's been pushed by another year to the end of 2017 rolleyes

I think The Meadows r/bout reconstruction is to follow a similar sort of design as the one they built in Basingstoke by becoming a "Hamburger" design.

Edit - I believe they are also blocking off the exit part of the junction / road that links to Tesco / Next as that was marked out as being a pinch point with heavy queuing and people usually pulling out and blocking, etc.

As long as they make the road behind Next two way, so that you can get to Sandhurst without negotiating the Meadow's I'll be happy smile
(I realise that won't happen)
