Just received the following message at work regarding the M3 closure:

Bracknell Forest Council have recently been approached by Balfour Beatty (BB), representing Highways England (HE), regarding major works associated with the M3 Junction 4a to 2 ‘Smart Motorway’ scheme which requires the controlled collapse of Woodland Lane Bridge over the M3 within Surrey. The planning and preparation for this has been extensive which is why the official announcement has been delayed until today.

The works will require the M3 to be closed in both directions between junction 3 (A322) to 2 (M25) from 8pm on Friday 18th November to 5:30am on Monday 21st November (if for any reason there is a postponement of this date the following two weekends have been allocated as contingency dates) and during this time there will be several strategic diversion routes in place as the HE endeavour to redirect motorists some distance ahead of the impacted area. One of these diversions, however, is to route traffic through Bracknell via the A322, A329, A329M to meet the M4. The full extent of diversions are shown below but the extent of advance warning signs covers the whole south east and east midlands.

HE will be installing advanced warning Variable Message Signs along key routes, ahead of the closure weekend and all diversions will be extensively signed. Radio announcement are also planned in advance of the closure weekend. It is expected that the A322/A329 corridor will be much busier across the closure weekend. A free recovery service along the key route to enable the prompt dispatch of broken down vehicles and the HE Traffic Officers will be patrolling the A322/A329 corridor to assist where possible.

Edit: Not sure why the upload image isn't working, but click on it and it shows the map.

Slight update to my OP, the M3 will close from 9pm on Friday night, not 8pm.

There's a bit more information on the Highways England website about the diversions.
