Mondeo Mk3 TDCI 130 - glow plug light flashing
Discussion
Evening folks.
During hard acceleration my Mondeo judders, then goes into 'limp home' mode and the glow plug light starts flashing. It feels like an over boost problem as it only occurs under hard acceleration and usually at higher revs. Occasionally the car will cut out completely after going into limp home mode - This happened yesterday on the motorway! Stopping the car and turning the engine off and back on again resets the car and it drives fine after that. I can get away with medium acceleration for a couple of miles before the same thing happens again.
The car starts and drives fine from cold and the idle is perfect hot or cold.
I've bypassed the EGR valve by fitting a blanking plate and I've checked the actuator is moving freely.
I know that the TDCI engine is notorious for various problems sending the car into limp home mode but not sure what to try next.
Would a blocked fuel filter or cam position sensor be causing this problem? these are relatively cheap things to try and replace.
The car isn't worth spending thousands on and I don't want to start replacing injectors, fuel pumps or turbo's
Any advice greatly received.
Thanks.
