Afternoon all, we recently brought a 2010 Fiesta 1.6 TDCI into the household (less than a month ago...) and last week it failed to start one evening. The engine was cranking over but wouldn't fire up, after some help by an RAC chap it was diagnosed as a fuel system problem and recovered.

The quote for replacing the fuel pump we have been given stands at £950, is this about right? The garage stated the pump alone is around £500, this sounded expensive to me at first but having checked myself I can confirm this is true. The quoted price also includes diagnostics and a few other little bits and bobs that diesels need when undergoing this kind of work eg fuel filter etc. The garage is a local independent but pretty reputable diesel specialist.

Lastly, are fuel pumps common failure points on these cars/engines? As I say the car is a 2010, with around 71k and full service history.

I know my way around cars pretty well but unfortunately haven't got the first clue about diesels and this is the first Ford we've had, any help appreciated. thumbup Thanks!

The garage have stated to me it's a Bosch fuel pump, yes.

As far as the diagnosis goes, the RAC mech sprayed his can of magic ignition fluid stuff (hehe) down the intake tract and the car fired up and then cut out shortly after, so after this we knew it was fuel related.
It then went into the garage where they confirmed it was the fuel system. They originally said it was just the solenoid/valve (?) within the fuel pump/system (?), this was replaced and the car was running but still experiencing low fuel pressure so was running very rough as you'd imagine. They gave me a call and said they'll need to pull the whole fuel pump as they suspect that's the only possibility remaining..

As you can see I really don't have the first clue how these fuel systems work haha!
