I have had my failing griff diff replaced with a brand new one, however it appears that the new ones supplied were not exactly new. Due to a shortage of suitable planet gears the manufacturer has been using the least worn ones to build up replacement diffs therefore my 'new' diff is in a worse state than the knackered one it replaced. All alleged information of course, but it might be a useful bit of info.....and btw Ted this is not a dealer bashing session, they have been great and turned a knackered griff into a total joy to drive again - just that they got landed with a load of shitty diffs, I opted to take the car and enjoy a whining summer rather than leave it until a working diff could be sourced and spend the next few months on the bus.....

on a 96N griff 500, think it is a GKN unit - they ran out of gears allegedly so have started using the old ones!!!
Mine is just sick at low speed when the diff clutches are struggling to engage - sounds like the mechanic is still in there fixing the thing - and when at speed it whines alot.
