toyo 888 tyre update not road legal
Discussion
Just a quick heads ups as i know a lot of tiv owners run 888's, went to order a set today from camskill and spoke on the phone to them as they only had 1 in stock, cut a long story short the new ones that are coming are no longer road legal, apparently a lot of insurance companys have kicked up a stink about them being road tyres and they cant meet modern noise limits to register for the road, sorry if you allready know!
Are the R1R`s road legal ? or you could try the cheaper Federal RSR s .Ive been looking at these tyre`s but the big problem is the range of sizes ,can`t find anything close for a 16/17" setup.
Iv`e heard each tyre will have a colour code on the walls to tell the Police which one`s are road legal .i have some even worse news, the budget tyres will be allegal soon so we will no choice than to buy all the top brands .. Remember Toyo T1R`s were cheap budget tyres untill they were found to be a great tyre for light weight sports cars.
The T1R`s have been replaced and also the Falken 452`s ..Both replacements are total rubbish ..

F'ing insurance companies, would they rather you wrap your pride and joy round a tree quietly?
I did you bugger!Shall I bring that cover to thunder in the tunnels?

When i was looking at new tyres the R1R's didn't have a sufficient speed rating for my T350t, so avoided them just in case
V rated for some 16 inch (150 MPH) or w rated for all other sizes (168 mph).I don't think w rated would be called into question for any T350?
Looks like an alternative to 888s and are OEM for some Honda's, Subs and Mitus's??

Let me know how you get on with these if you could Paul - after doing the Alps/Dolomites last week with these new AD08s, I'm not sure the rears are going to be lasting v.long.
P.S. Dom mentioned I should talk to you about pads so may be in touch in the near future if that's OK?

I've done about 7.5k on mine including 1 trackday and some euro alp stuff but a good 1k running in. There's still just under 4mm left and I will admit to using the car......P.S. Dom mentioned I should talk to you about pads so may be in touch in the near future if that's OK?
I'm gobsmacked at how long they are lasting, I've had pilot sports last less on an m3!
I posted about this back in 2009 after reading an article in the August edition(page 20)of EVO magazine.
I can't remember the specifics but think it was more to do with the EU nanny state than insurers interfering. The new legislation was due to come into effect in November 2012.
