Ultimate TVR Shootout 4

This date is simply a general Run What Ya Brung public test day.
Therefore it should be relatively quiet meaning short queues and plenty of track time.
We see the usual suspects at these meetings with a plethora of modified Chimaeras. It would be fantastic if we could get other models interested and make it a good TVR get together.
Don’t be shy, come along and see how easy it is to run the strip and stretch your cars legs in safety.
WARNING: Drag racing can be highly addictive!
Dont forget your driving licence and bring a helmet if you have one. Santa Pod dont demand you wear a helmet but i would recommend you have one. There are some available at the track i believe also.
Set off early. The last few miles take the longest. You really want to be there by 9am in time to sign on, get in the queue in the fire up lanes and relax and have a natter.
Talk to drivers around you about the startline procedure. The marshals will direct you anyway if you look a little lost or confused.
Roll slowly upto the starline, which is further from the tree than you may expect. Nudge the car forward till you light the first pre stage light, then just enough further forward till the second light is lit. STOP. Then when you see the other lanes stage lights lit the startline marshal triggers the tree.... amber lights then green. Dont worry too much about reactions as it will not affect your ET. The timing doesnt start till you have set off and trigger the timing beam. Take it easy on your first runs, try to minimise wheelspin, no need to hit the rev limiter, Change gear swiftly and keep your foot down past the finish line gantry. Exit left and give way to the car in the left lane if you are in the right. You dont want to cut somebody up. If you miss the first exit gate carry on to the next one.
Return to the queue and get someone to get your timing ticket.
Now prepare to run a bit quicker.... enjoy.

I would like to have come along but I am at the Brighton Speed trials the day before so will more than likely stay there to make a weekend of it.

Then again it does mean i may keep that number 2 spot a while longer.
Good luck at the speed trials. Something i mean to do next year.
Traction off the start line isnt good there but the event looks fantastic.

Derek, how much does your car wobble due to the soft tyres? I definitely backed off near the end of my last run because it felt like the back end had gone all 'floaty' - am sure its just something you get used to, but I was definitely having to adjust steering slightly to keep it going in a straight line.
I have new wheels for the tyres as well now.

Those you have are more hardcore track tyres Nick so probably very soft in the sidewall. Like you say you just need to get used to them. Maybe run higher pressures. I would think 15 psi would make the car feel more stanle and still all the grip you need after a smokey burnout. Derek, how much does your car wobble due to the soft tyres? I definitely backed off near the end of my last run because it felt like the back end had gone all 'floaty' - am sure its just something you get used to, but I was definitely having to adjust steering slightly to keep it going in a straight line.

IMG_4765Mine are the MT Street ET Radials. Fully road legal but a similar compound. Again all the grip i need.

hence the search for another company.
I wonder what Dave Macs prices are now then... at least our good friend (nemesis) Brummmie has tested them with over 600 bhp through hot and sticky drag radials. A 60 foot time in the 1.5s is very impressive for a road car suspension hence the search for another company.MPoxon said:

Just need to refit my starter motor after a head gasket change (yes it does help), fillup with antifreeze, reconnect the battery, refit the bonnet, fire it up and test it, fill my nitrous bottles, pack the car, take a deep breath and head down at 6 am See you there.
Had 1 run.
hardly any burnout, loads of wheelspin in 1st and 2nd slewing all over the track. Ran 11.76 @ 126.87
Then the car wouldnt restart... wire fell off the starter.... easy fix.
Then had some nasty noises, suspect serp bearing and the other head gasket blowing.
So i changed my rears and headed home.
The car ran fine, temp at 65 all the way, great oil pressure, but the blowing noise got much worse.
I now suspect (and hope) its just an exhaust gasket.
Will find out this Friday.
