Hello all.

Ever since I was a small boy I have wanted a TVR.
I am now in a position to buy one. I am putting an upper limit of £18,000 on it as I would like money left over for other things.
I want a Tuscan and from what I have seen you may be able to get a good one for this amount. Is it a good idea to almost ease yourself into TVR ownership with something less powerful like a Chimera or is a Tuscan as good an idea as I think it is?
Also, I don't have a garage so will this be a really terrible idea? I can get a really decent car cover and be ok? I know a few things to look out for in general on TVRs, such as chassis corrosion and outriggers and also speed 6 rebuilds.
Any advice would be really appreciated. I'm super excited about the prospect of getting my dream car so I would like to make an informed decision.

Thanks,

Bob

Of course I will get a driving day under my belt with it. They have a reputation that goes before them.
So from what I can gather it shouldn't be a problem to have it outside with a car cover. I also hear that these cars thrive on being used. That is all good for me!

Many thanks for all the comments.
I will keep a look out over the coming weeks about what's out there.
A Tamora is probably out of my budget but I will have a look anyway. I will find a way of test driving a couple of models to see what suits me. The only problem is the cars in dealerships are way over my budget, I can't see them helping me out with test drives. However, all maintenance will be at a tvr specialist like tvr power or bespoke performance near me.

Again any advice is appreciated.

I have been emailing someone who sells TVRs this morning and he seems to say the if a car has had a rebuild from 2003 onwards then they should be a lot better.
There are obviously a lot more things to think about but the rebuild seems to be the main thing to look out for.
A lot of thinking to do. I have also looked at RV8 TVRs and whilst nice don't have the same appeal to me as the Tuscan. I might have to try and drive a few before I make a definite decision.

Well I may need to up my budget a little to get a really decent one. I have found one for just over £20 that has just had an engine rebuild. It's the Red Rose at Racing Green.
Of course I am looking at all I can, I won't be able to go and see any for a few weeks though. The mint green one at James Agger also looks good and it is much less money.
Fat8ob, that sounded like an offer to sell yours!

Interesting thread.
I am also in the same boat budget wise and my first choice is the Tamora. I would consider a Tuscan though depending on the test drive. No interest in the V8. Been there, done that.
Coming from a 911, 997 C2 I know the woes of potential engine rebuilds hovering over your head. The best advice i received in the Porsche world is buy on condition and i've always applied that logic across all cars to avoid dogs.
Having said that, engine rebuild evidence from a reputable specialist will be a strong attraction for me for peace of mind.
I did consider a Tamora but I couldn't find any in my budget. Well, there was one that was just above my budget at James Agger but it had a purple (!?!!) interior. Not something I could live with.
I have bought a car now. People will probably say that i jumped in too quick but this car came up, was just down the road, was a good price and Rob Ingleby said it was an excellent buy.
A car cover, a wax oil and a service and I will be sailing.
I am at work so I can't post pictures, a thread is here! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
