I'm thinking of getting some new tyres on the Tuscan whilst my wheels are refurbed, but am struggling to come up with any alternatives to the Goodyear eagle asymmetrics I've got on there now. Nothing wrong with them but thought I'd check to see what people are using. I can't find any Sessanta's in the right size (225/40 and 255/35) unless anyone has any good links?

Also.. What's the difference between these 2 goodyears? I notice the fuel rating is much worse on the 2nd one so does that mean it's a different compound? I can't find anything on the net and Goodyear haven't come back to me yet.

I've narrowed the choice down to another set of Eagle F1, or Yokohama AD08R.

Only thing that's now potentially putting me of changing to the AD08R is that it doesn't specify that it has specific rim protection, so i'm not sure if sticking with my current 225/40 size on the front will make the tyre look too stretched??

This is the current 225/40 Goodyear.

So i'm pretty sure that a tyre without the slightly enlarged bead will still look ok?

I suppose I could try it and see, and if not then go back to 255's on the front as well and see how I get on!

I'm pretty sure you can get the R1R in 225/40 and 255/35.

However i've placed an order now for some Yoko AD08R tyres.... they certainly look nice!! Time will tell on whether the 225 look a bit too stretched but that's a risk worth taking for the moment.

The Sessanta's do have great reviews and more importantly seem to have good feedback from other TVR owners so sounds like a good choice. They were on my list but I can't get the rears.

I didn't realise the Tam ran a slightly slimmer rear width. If you fancy the ad08 then might be worth checking if anyone has gone to a 255 rear on a Tam without any issue.

Also nothing wrong with the Goodyear f1's so worth a look at those if they come in the right size too.

I did wonder whether they would be too track orientated but from what i've read, they're not in the R888 bracket, more similar to the R1R which was aimed at more road use but with occasional track work, and there seems to be a fair amount of people reviewing them for road use so hopefully it'll be good!

I guess like a lot of things, it's almost impossible to try before you buy so if all else fails and they don't feel nice on the road or are too noisy etc then i'll have to put my F1's back on and use these for something else.

What have you used on the road and what didn't you like? Noise and ride quality seem to be the likely trade off (if any)?

Yet to be driven but they do look good. The 225 does seem a lot wider than the Goodyear version so they don't look stretched at all.

Will report back once they're run in!
