Rover V8 ignition system, MS,Emerald,CANEMS, Omex etc

From a bit of research on here its all been asked and said before, but I still cant get the definitive answer for ME!

Ive got a rover V8 with mild tuning on the top end, not chasing BHP, but I want to clean up the engine bay and make it more 'reliable'

As the car is in bits I think this is the time to do it, so

All I want from the new ECU system is

No distributor, so coil packs
minimal amount of sensor pick ups, so water temperature Im assuming is a given, but not sure on the rest.
not wanting to have to mess with lambda sensors or any extra bits.
no stepper to worry about.
Not sure on the AFM system, or how to omitt it!

Ive looked at the CANEMS system, saw one on a SEAC at Burghley, looked to be a good option.
then there is the Emerald,Megasquirt to look at, and possibly the Omex system.

So please treat me as a dummy and win me over with your experiences of installations and running with these systems.
