Is this really the future for TVR parts.

I just searched for a door switch cover for the Chim as mine has been lost and was redirected from Racing Green to TVR Car Parts Website;

Retail Total £2.82
Postage and Packing £7.95
VAT @ 20.00% £2.15
Order Total £12.92

Thirteen quid to get one gel cover worth a few pence at most for a switch.

Should they really be charging VAT on postage?

That price is to have the item couriered.

It's such a naive post.

If you break down the order of operations of a mail order item ie picking, packaging, completing delivery forms, passing to courier..these all have a cost. If you were familiar with business models you would know this.

On face value your 12.92 seems high but break it down and it's not... And you can't make comparisons to places like Amazon who are highly mechanised rather than hand picked

What's better is I know for a fact that the chaps that run that section of TVR parts will look to save you money. Possibly adding to their operational cost.

Suck it up, your driving a rare car and, what at first appears expensive in reality isn't. I know for a fact unless it was 20 mins away I wouldn't bother drive to collect the part. Your a custodian of that car and are simply supporting its parts supply. If it's not for you, you could buy a BMW.

Your driving a hand built British sports car.

Suck it up?

Custodian supporting its parts supply? WTF?

Handbuilt British sportscar. Yep, Handbuilt by gorillas.

These are basically a bathtub kit car. I've owned mine for 9 years and love it to pieces but am under no illusion that its an old fashioned big old engine in a space frame chassis with ford brakes and held together with tiger seal.

I have a 45 year old rover P5B - of that I am custodian. the year 2000 bath tub has no real engineering depth or engineering history.

As for picking up the phone, what's the point of a system meant to be automated if it defaults to a price structure that puts people off?

Ignorant of facts I may be but naive, I doubt.

Buy a BMW. Nope. Been buying cars for 35 years and haven't bought one yet and don't intend to start now. After all I don't want to be a BMW custodian being only here to support its parts supply.

hehe

I don't believe that the only thing wrong with the OP's car is the missing door switch cover. wink
Oh, it isn't. There's lots of stuff wrong with it. Would you like a list of some:

Corroded headlight refelctors
Hot start issue reared its head at the weekend
The outriggers are beginning to show tignes they need sorting
The radio doesn't fit in the aperture properly
The carpet is coming unglued from the driver's foot well
The kind lead turret on the dizzy cap melted last week and I've only just ordered a new set of leads which were the previous sett as the "new set" and cap I fitted last year before driving to Italy broke down after less then 2K miles.
There are several scratches near the boot from putting the roof in and out
There are some chunks of topcoat missing from the n/s front wing where a metal box fell on it in the garage
The rear roof section needs retensioning and has been patched at the sides just after I bought it.
The washer bottle has a milk carton lid as a cover

I'm sure there are lots more.

Still probably one of the better standard ones around though hehe

Makes me smile.

I don't mind paying for parts but i object to the TVR tax when you mention what car the parts are for. And it does happen.

And no Pupp, I haven't ordered one. My last one was pinched at Burleigh last year and I've been looking for a supply since then. I ordered a couple from RS but they were the wrong size. I've toyed with the idea of changing the buttons for waterproof ones as its cheaper than buying the original covers. Well, it is if you believe the postage costs on the website hehe
