4 Post Lift Recommendation
Discussion
Hi all,
I am interested in buying a 4 post lift for a home garage, does anyone have any recommendations please.
I have looked at lifts from the following companies but the cost difference is vast and I am trying to understand why thee is such a vast range in cost, are the more expensive versions worth the difference?
Bendpak
SJR
Strongman Tools
Automotech Services
Any advice would be great thanks.

Thanks guys much appreciated, I will have a look at the 2 places mentioned in St Albans, the first one sells the SJR and the second sell the Peak brand.
My requirement is to occasional stack 2 TVR's and to work on them on the ramp including the capacity to safely allow me to work on my daily cars up to a Range Rover, I have the space and height for a full size as I have vaulted the ceiling like Phazed has.
I have an engineered raft foundation with so much steel in that drilling and bolting is not an option of a 2 post which is why I want a free standing 4 post with the flexibility to move on a roller kit which most come with.
Phazed - I really was keen on the Automotech services 4 post but they don't have one I can look at but these along with the SJR are fantastic value less than half of the bendpak & Strongman.
Your feedback is very positive and encourages me to pursue these along with the others further.
If anyone has experience of any of the 4 post lifts listed or the Peak lift I would really like to hear your feedback.
Thanks again, Mr N

Thanks for the feedback guys.
It's defo a 4 post that I want for stacking as well as working on the car and plus need a jacking beam. Like you mention some of the cheap ones need to be viewed before I commit, it needs to be robust and well made.
I have seen a Backstreet Buddy 4 post in the US which looks good quality and a decent locking ladder, but I can't see a uk distributor so I have written to them. This lift looks well made.
J - Thanks for the drilling offer, I will keep you updated, your always welcome if you need to test.
Cheers

Thanks for the post Mrs BlueCerbera, I recall reading that at the time but couldn't find it in the search tool. This is exactly the feedback I want to hear before I select a lift butt the link to the supplier plus most of the pics don't work and assume the supplier no longer exists?
Do you know if this is now the lift offered by SJR or is the supplier trading under a different name?
I really want a quality 4 post lift that doesn't need bolting down and is £2-3 k inc vat with a decent jacking beam.
Many Thanks

Hi Andrew,
I really like your scissor and started off wanting one but decided that with the stack option of the 4 post would make more use of my space. I do like the way your ones are individual and that they go to a nice height.
GC 450 - Thanks for all you advice and pictures, I have today ordered a SJR mod4 with jacking beam, just waiting the delivery date. As you said these are by far the most helpful supplier and returned all my calls and info requests unlike all of the other suppliers iwhich is so surprising.
Thanks again everyone for all your advice.

Hi Jjlnl,
Having searched for over a year to decide on what one to purchase, I can say that having had the lift for some time I am really pleased with it and represents great value for money, I can't fault it in anyway it has been much better than I expected.
The one thing that takes some getting use to is holding the lock mechanism lever when lowering whilst holding the down button, this obviously keeps the cost down and the need for an airline to operate the locks. It is not a problem just need to get accustomed to it and it isn't hard at all.
I double stack the cars quite often and the ramp comes with oil drip trays which protect the car below, the optional SJR jacking beam is also very good.
I would definitely recommend the whole thing.

Hi jjnl,
I was going to do exactly the same but when you factor the shipping to house cost (delivered or collect hiring a flatbed truck or trailer), the cost to have it delivered and installed was reasonable.
I had a call with another PH user that had his installed and on his recommendation I used the delivery and install team.
The guys that delivered it 3 of them travelled in a flatbed truck and brought with them a Genie crane. The ramp with the ram inside is too heavy for 3 of them to lift.
The install guys were good and exactly as our fellow PH member recommended, as much as I wanted to install it, it was handy having the guys that install these all the time to point out the dos and don'ts.
So glad I did.
Overall I was going to buy a Bendpak but so glad I didn't, this lift gave me supplied, delivered and installed plus saving £4K in overall cost.
I can't believe they can make ship to U.K. And install this list with a jacking beam for the price.
Good luck

Hi,
I have just checked and the lift platform on the Mod 4 is 130mm from the floor to the top of the platform.
Other considerations:
The platform locking positions are dictated by the cut outs in the ladders (one ladder in each of the 4 posts), these could all be adjusted up or down if your dimensions are that critical and may allow you to get the platform looking locked in at a more specific locked in height due to your height constraint.
The platform needs to click into the ladder on all 4 posts and then release the pressure in the ram so that the finished height is mechanically locked and solid .
Other thing to note is that when you want to lower the ramp, you need to raise the ramp 10-20mm to release the manual locks before releasing the pressure from the ram and lower the platform.
I hope this helps.

Hi guys,
I have the SJR Mod 4 which has been great and allows me to work on the car fine although on occasion agree a 2 poster would be nice, my choice as an addition to the 4 post would be a 1 post lift which SJR also sell (instead of a 2 post).
These are mobile, don’t need fixing and spread the load on the floor nicely negating the bolting down as per the 2 post. With a 1 post lift you get the 2 post benefit plus it is moveable.
