Just decided to check how the new Car Duty changes on 1st April 2017 will affected me. I have two cars (Tuscan vert and SAG) currently SORN'ed , so I entered the details to start their duty from the 1st Jan 2017 and it came up with £235 for 12 months and I thought great. Then looked the new rates for a PLG and I started to get confused :-

https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables/rates-f...

4. Cars and light goods vehicles registered before 1 March 2001

The rate of vehicle tax is based on engine size.

Private or light goods (TC11)

Engine size (cc)

Single 12 month payment

Single 12 month payment by Direct Debit

Total of 12 monthly instalments by Direct Debit

Single 6 month payment

Single 6 month payment by Direct Debit

Not over 1549 £145 £145 £152.25 £79.75 £76.13
Over 1549 £235 £235 £246.75 £129.25 £123.38

But both cars are 1st registered 1st 2006 so

6. Other vehicle tax rates

Light goods vehicles (TC39)

Registered on or after 1 March 2001 and not over 3,500kg revenue weight (also known as maximum or gross vehicle weight).

Vehicle

Single 12 month payment

Single 12 month payment by Direct Debit

Total of 12 monthly instalments by Direct Debit

Single 6 month payment

6 months by Direct Debit

Light goods vehicle £230 £230 £241.50 £126.50 £120.75

So does this mean my Tuscan and Sagaris will be £230 but a TVR before 1st April 2001 will be £235 ... thumbup £5 cheaper bounce

Mine was £235, paid this month.
Yes that's now , but after 1st April 2017 it appears PLGs , 1st registered after the 1st April 2006 will only be £230 smile .
I must say £2000 for the new TVR would put me off , unless they can pull off the PLG Small volume Ministers Approval trick smile

Just Taxed the Sag .... £245 frown
At least I managed Tax the Chim before the end of March and saved myself a tenner smile

Looks all TVR as Tax Class 11 and not 39 despite the fact some were 1st registered after 1st March 2001
