Polish (not the e.european variety)

Quick question: can I use standard polish on a metallic painted car? Cheers

I thought polish as there are some swirl marks where the vauxhall dealer decided to wash the car with a scouring pad (or something similar judging buy the marks). I may just use the wax then. Cheers
