I keep a pack of these in the glove box - http://www.autoglym.com/products/products/bird-dro...
Apply the wipe, let is soak in a little and it seems to remove the dropping without paint damage.

Any tips?
Don't leave bird poo on there for three days!
I carry a microfibre cloth and mini spray bottle of quick detail spray for exactly this. Don't leave bird poo on there for three days!
Bird poo eats into the paint.

I've got it all off OK (Baby wipes, plus foam spray) but it's the stain that's left which worries me
Can you put a pic of the stain up Is it on the decal or the paint, or is it a wrapped roof, if the latter probably nothing you can do
If it's on the paint might be worth trying to clay the area and then using a fine cut polish work the area and then seal and wax accordingly and that may work
