Autosol for Exhaust Tips

Hi all,
Thinking of using Autosol on my exhaust tips to make them silver again. Has anyone done this before? Is the stuff heat resistant? And is it just a case of applying it using a damp cloth?

I'm new to this stuff! If someone could kindly detail out a procedure to get em clean i'd really appreciate it.
