I disappear between Singapore and Sydney on a regular basis and Im by myself until the 457 lands and SWMBO can come across.

Whilst I work long hours, it would be nice to make some new friends that are either not tinder/other dating sites or SWMBO friends...

Originally it didn't matter as got along with colleagues well, but the project has shut down and Im the only one left in Australia, Im needed in Singapore every now and again for work.

Any ideas for a Brit in Aus... How did you lot do it?

Here being Sydney or here being PH?

If the former, I understand these are pretty good http://www.meetup.com/cities/au/sydney/ I met some folk that were on a bike hash and thought cycling and boozing would be good, but I do that with my real mates anyway. They seemed a good bunch though and I will do it one day.

If the latter, several have deserted us and we're pretty crap at organizing anything. I'd be happy to meet up for a few beers at some point.
former...

Im based in Sydney and spend time in Singapore... If in Sydney give me a shout and I can annoy SWMBO by making friends with pistonheads.

Sydney can be a pretty big place - great if you want to fly under the radar, but socially - breaking in to new circles can be hard...

Are you here infrequently enough not to join a sporting club?

As for a Sydney PH meetup - could be keen. Let us know : )
Keen for a meet up defiantly... sporting clubs are out of my league, that disappeared in 2012 with the destruction of my ankle (was hockey/rugby/cricket) so not a lot more than scuba and beer drinking is beyond me.

I may be relocating to Sydney soon, would be up for a beer and car chat after work one day, will keep you posted.

Stef
Im here until minimum of April, so definitely up for beers...

Though if you are thinking of doing it in the next few weeks... I will be MIA.

I work in Sing/Sydney and split my time, currently in Sing, then back for a week in Sydney, then off to Fiji for 2 weeks diving with OceanView Villa, but back full time in 2nd week in Sept.

I've been on a few of those Meetups myself and I agree with "Lardydah" that they feel a bit contrived. I find that some of the people in them seem a bit clicky or the groups are too large to get to know people properly. Having said all that though, they are a good way to get you out of the house when you're new to a city and I've met a couple of good friends from one of the groups that I went to.
where abouts in sydney?

Do you work CBD or such and yes I would be up of a PH beer drinks...

Just meeting up with an old PHer in Sing that I originally I meet 9 years ago when we used to do the dirty dicks pub crawl... Holy crap its a long time.

I work out near to the airport but I live in Chippendale. How about yourself?

Ok cool, we'll have to sort something out.

How are you finding Sydney then compared to Singapore?
Im in Barangaroo in one of the new builds over looking Darling Harbour...

Singapore = sweaty, but I enjoy it and have met up with a few PHer mates here.
Sydney = cooler, however outside of work not a lot going on.

Partner finally turned up on Sunday (Im still in Sing) so can't wait to get back.

Nice spot, if you like craft beers then Beer De Luxe has a good bottle list and is a nice place to chill on a sunny day, watching the world go by. There was a good friend chicken place from Melbourne that had a pop up in Barangaroo too but I think that it's closed now.
Belles chicken is a permanent takeaway/restaurant there, talked to the owner a few times, didnt realise he was quite famous and did a chef challenge on latest series of Masterchef.

The chicken or the mushrooms are beautiful.

I work in the CBD (Circular Quay area) so anyone think of any good places there that don't mean you have to run straight from work to get a table, alternatively I can be persuaded to go elsewhere if anyone has any good watering hole recommendations?
