Refurbishment of my Maserati Mexico
Discussion
For anybody who's interested, here are some pictures of my recently purchased Maserati Mexico, 4.2 V8. In need of some light refurbishment and a fresh coat of paint, needs the interior cleaning and a few repairs, and the brakes making good. The carbs have been fully refurbished and it runs, sounding fantastic in a cultured way....:-

Lovely! I always wanted one. A proper, elegant gentleman's coupe. And this one looks to be in an excellent state. Very jealous!
It's very solid, a little rust in the bottom of the wings and doors but the wheel arches are solid just like the rest of the car. Has done very few miles and still has the Maserati logo's on the pedal rubbers and heal mat. It's beautifully made, stunning to look at and I'm chuffed to bits with it.. Paul

lovely car. i will concede for a moment i thought some lunatic had shoehorned a cerbera engine into an escort tho.
Oh, come on. Don't spoil it.Don't know what the OP paid for it but I see folk paying ridiculous amounts for similar age Escorts! Where's the sense in that. I know which I'd rather have. This is a real car. Vignale styled, maybe not the finesse of a Pinnin Farina but a very car nice all the same. Rear quarter lights a bit BMW? Rear boot panel indented, quite like other lesser Italians of the period. Wonder where those rear lights came from. If anything, grille reminds me just a tad of the Triumph Acclaim - a true classic!!!! But I'm not taking anything away from this super motor - want one!

Glad you like it, the rear lights are exclusive to the Mexico and the Quattroportte of the same age. I'm going to be buying a pair of replacement lenses as these are faded and the off-side is damaged. Also need to replace the missing 'Maserati' and 'Mexico' scripts off the boot lid. Shopping time

The paint is very flat and isn't the original paint as it had a respray about 20 years ago, the photo's flatter it and it does spoil an otherwise lovely car.

Fair enough Photos always seem to make paint look better then it is. Are you going to change colour? I quite like that blue.Paul

Just as a matter of interest, that is if you care to tell us, how did you come by the car? Was it direct from Italy, a private source or from a dealer? I see elsewhere someone has started a thread on importing a car from Italy, although it is drawing some conflicting stories! I have an interest in sourcing a decent Lancia Beta Coupe shell for a project I've been toying with for years.
