Classic for £1500-£2000

Looking for a classic for the summer to do up. Ideally a two seat sport cars but others have been considered.

What I've been looking at recently:
MG Midget/AH Sprite MK 2/3/4
VW Golf MK 1/2
VW Scirocco MK 1/2
Ford Fiesta MK 2

Any other ideas?

The Scimitar is very similar in looks to the Scirocco, what would be the better option?

Was only looking at Sprites as my mums first car was a sprite and its currently sitting unrestored in the garage. By the Scimitar and Scirocco looking the same, i meant the coupe body shape, although all Scimatars seem to be loads on insurance....
