Following a thread I started a couple of months ago I'm now at a more serious stage of looking (though still trying to get is past the missus) and was after thoughts on the following 2 cars. Both have similar mileages and seem in very good condition and whilst I'm aware one is an 8v vs a 16v they otherwise both look really nice. However, there is a fair % difference in price and with any classic hatch there seems to be a massive variation in this regard that may or may not be reflective of condition. I really like the colour of the 8v (red) and both have some really good points. Also, how easy/cheap is it to change the keep fit windows to electric?

Anyhow, I'd appreciate any thoughts on these 2 including what you think of the process, possible negotiation etc;

Thanks all - Must admit I was a little unsure about 5k on a Golf, I do like the look of the red 8v though.
The small bumper on FB sounds interesting but I really do prefer the look of the big bumper.
As for it being a white goods car? Not really sure I follow, a standard golf maybe but the GTi? No way. Drive one for a while and you may see why.

Thank you again. I'm still really liking the red 8v but not the price. I may try and get along one weekend to see it (not in a desperate hurry) and see if cash in hand speaks anything, condition pending obviously, though given your comments would you say between 2.5 and 3 is more a fairer reflection of value for it than the 3.75 he's asking?
I'll give the 5k cars a wide berth, whilst I want decent I'm not after perfection.
