Fifty Shades of Rust - Lancia Integrustle
Discussion
I found a tiny amount of rust on my Integrale....

This two fist sized hole was in the corner of the front cross member, in front of the tire. Now repaired..

Lancia Integrale - Fifty Shades of Rust
Drove it for the first time since I bought it yesterday and now engine cutting out on full boost.. I'm starting to think I might end up hating this car...
Cheers guys... don't get me wrong, I never expected this to be a trouble free purchase but the work has turned out to be far more extensive than expected. I knew the car as it belonged to a mate and expected to have to replace the discs, maybe tidy up a couple of bits of bodywork but not what has come up so far:
Total brake rebuild including master cylinder and bias valve
Roll bar drop links
Extensive rust remedy on front crossmember, rear wheelarches and middle jacking points
Clutch slave needs replacing soon
Idle control valve needs replacing
And a multitude of smaller jobs... am I happy to have it, yes. But it's got the potential to be the most frustrating of all my cars so far. Having spent a fortune rectifying most of the big stuff I was then totally pissed when I got it back and the engine was cutting out on full boost, possibly down to something the mechanic had done without realising..

I owned many Integrales back in the day and then stopped paying attention for a few years.
When I popped back for a nose around I couldn't believe the amount of examples being eaten alive. I thought they'd licked that problem.
Never found any of mine unreliable but there were always a bunch of minor jobs that needed doing. I suppose my oldest example was around 15 years old by then.
Yep, I think I've just caught this one at a time when it needed a few things doing..When I popped back for a nose around I couldn't believe the amount of examples being eaten alive. I thought they'd licked that problem.

I do enjoy your little films. Love the Integrustle! Stick with it!
I emailed you about your 500, by the way. I wonder if you saw it?
Hey thanks...no, not got any email about the 500! I part swapped it for the Integrustle, if you look on my channel there is a little vid on the swap!I emailed you about your 500, by the way. I wonder if you saw it?
My mate has not had an easy time with that either to be honest. He's put a 650cc engine in it that I supplied with the car and it has had a few issues!

Sorry to hear that there was undiscovered rot...gutted for you....you push on hoping this is it and then they find some more.....same with the Alfas!!!!
Persevere and love the head in hands photo, just about sums it up really.
Hey Stephen, good to hear from you! Just dropped it back off at Alfacraft to see whats going on with the engine cutting out, it might be a boost related issue.. hope they sort it out quickly!Stephen here ( i bought your Evo doosr, coilovers a month or two back)

Mine went wrong on the way to the workshop (John Whalley, Bishops Stortford: now gone).
To be fair he sorted out the electrical gremlins and it ran beautifully, but I got too precious / worried about it and sold it on. I paid 5800 and sold it for 7000, which all but covered the cost of that work.

Ah the lovely Integrustle... drove it last week for the first proper blast. Unfortunately it developed an engine cut out problem so my enjoyment was somewhat tempered by the white hot anger I felt with this new fault. Despite this there were definite signs of greatness present. I think I'll just need to be patient ironing out the various gremlins which keep popping up.
Made little video of my drive : Intergrustle Drive!
managed to get it in a field and had fun sliding it about...

That isn't rotten, just some minor surface rust
This was rotten...
The engine cut out will most likely be a sensor issue. Does the engine management light come on?
st.. that is rotten! It's with the mechanics now so hopefully they will sort it out. Will keep you all updated. Thanks for all your replies! This was rotten...

Picked it up yesterday.. mechanic says all ok. He replaced the temp sensor and redid the connectors to the TPS which were just using a connector block. I've not tried it properly yet. Seems to be running better but only the same as before I took it to them before they did the work. Still has an idle issue though it is better. I've got a new ISV valve so will try replacing that today!
Sounds absolutely brilliant.. there a video link in one of the previous posts that shows a blast and has the engine sound!
Here it is.. Intergrustle Drive!

You'll be lucky to see 220bhp with that spec, although surely whoever remapped it did it on a dyno so there should be a power figure from that.
Granted 250 maybe optimistic. I'll have a look.. but it has an EVO engine which as standard should be putting out 210bhp so I would expect more than just an extra 10bhp from gas flowed head, bespoke exhaust and a remapped ECU.. it does feel very strong.SlimJim16v said:
Not everyone knows every aspect of the integrale nor Fiat/Lancia's fibs about power output. He's telling us about his car as this is a car enthusiasts forum, so can only go on info he's been told. I think the evo had a better exhaust, so this would be where the extra 10bhp came from.
It did have a 3" exhaust fitted by then RT and I've seen power readouts that give around 250bhp just with this and a mild remap.
This is one of 3 cars I know of that have had evo suspension fitted. The others being Alan's (RIP) highly modded 8v and Simon's 16v. So it does have evo bits.
I don't know about the engine, but think it needed the head doing while Gavin had it.
Hey, the engine was replaced with a brand new 'crate' Evo engine by Gavin when he had the car. Hence me mentioning the EVO provenance. Indeed I expect there should have been a dyno readout from the remap but so far i've not found it. Mind you there is loads of paperwork and i've not had time to go through the whole lot.It did have a 3" exhaust fitted by then RT and I've seen power readouts that give around 250bhp just with this and a mild remap.

Still seems to be running well and taking it to Snowdonia this weekend for the first proper thrash! I'll get some video of the driving and will post it up some time next week!
Guys, so i took it to the Evo Triangle last weekend. It was pretty epic although initially I was slightly underwhelmed. The roads are mega and the scenery also fantastic. I had to go out super early though as the weekend is quite trafficked.
