Estates That Never Were.....
Discussion
Well I have to say that I'm dead chuffed with the response - for more than two years and this is my first response over 100! thank you, you lot!
Now...... moving swiftly on.... ....... I have to agree with -
Jbutler - sorry! although the SD1 was lovely, a 2.3 Estate on steel wheels with a cartoon estate slapped on the back, one step removed from an Allegro and an asthmatic engine (and I'm allowed to say that!) was ....
The 800 Estate however, was another matter (I had a black Vitesse years ago - seriously fast - massive scuttle shake as evidenced coming down the M40 lol! seriously quickly!) despite your photoshop pic's they were lovely, very classy, very elegant.
47P2 posted some really nice shots of the R800. The early one didn't really work for me albeit it possibly because with a retrospective view it looks, well.... you know... having said that however I really liked the Ministerial 800 Estate- that could have caught on surely! a lot classier than the Renault 25 Est - merely a hatch with a box stuck on the back!
Slowmax - I loved that Maserati! very tasteful (except for the headlamps...sssssshhhh! )
The Quattro's by Rouleur - very cool!
Conian - I'd never seen that E Type before, so thanks for that- I'll add that to my knowledge bank. Not only do I consider myself a big Jag fan but somewhere in the closet, I also confess I really like Cat Stevens before he became a WHY (oh yes - whilst we're about it I also like Neil Diamond )
The Merc by Tog, that's really nice that gets a thumbs up too, though sorry! not the SM by Trommel (sorry mate!) c'mon it looks like a dog's dinner. Not even the Le-Mans version breadvan improved on it, did it? Somewhat like putting a moustache on the Mona Lisa.
Why is it that some conversions's work really well but other's don't? -. I've been looking at the pic's and have to agree with Ajax50
It set me thinking -again- lol! What is it that defines success or conversely elegance?.Is it that elegance is the conversion of success? I think it's to do with slimness of proportion and that's what we're attracted to.
See, I like the the 635 or whatever posted by Sharknose - I like that,it's got a proportion of stance that balances itself, somewhat like the Aston Virage
Look at the 504 Estate or the 130- yes they're both Pinin design but look at the XJ308 or Avon Estate with the heavy buttress (and I'm a massive Jag fan!) they're both too heavy round the flank.
The 456 Est however whilst heavy in the "rear" is pretty darn perfection! So does that bring me back to an earlier post about what we like .... read - our other halve's )
Just for the record - I like slim with a little bit of shape ....... Giggle! ; :

The Bentley posted by BalmoralG set me thinking - How many different Estate conversions can you think of that were never officially produced. No semantics,- it's just a game
Here's a few to kick off -
What's quite amazing is that's my photo! Here's a few to kick off -

I wonder who stole it from my Flickr page?
I often say "Google is your friend" - perhaps he's not in your case?

Well I didn't think the thread would run for this long; seems we all like estates
I was drawn to the Mustang Estate posted by Wolands A, I think it would be a car I would stump up hard cash for. I really like good design and even better if it's executed well (Jonathan R's Jag should just be executed! )
I can't think what the Mustang roofline reminds me of, is it the Audi A2? (not a fan of that car)
However from there I went trawling to find out more about the Mustang and came up trumps
Seems it was designed by these guys and they've created loads of concepts, some I guess manufactured and some just resting on the CAD board.
Have a trawl through the site, some great stuff- they seem to like Jags but what really caught my eye was the Rover 75 Convertible - stunning!
I deliberately haven't uploaded this time

Enjoy

Well I've been "off air" for a few weeks - major man flu stuff - anyway! back now and thought I'd close off a few topics.
Glad you enjoyed this one - thanks for your contributions
If you like your Granada's, Policestate, then I this this is a Colne Minster thingy conversion (?)
This Bentley has come up for sale recently - wouldn't look out of place on an American golf course would it?.... groan!
[url][img]
Of course we Brit's really know how to design our own, with a keen eye for detail and equal dash of flair and dexterity in execution of detail and VOILA!......
An XJ40 Estate!
and now properly done.... still not keen on this one, don't think the lilnes flow
but this one does
There you go now! - Have we done this thread to death?

"In relation to the MkV Cortina above it's owned by a guy in Co. Limerick (You seen it in NewRoss, just across from SuperValue "
That would be parked next to the "Famine Ship" then?
Small old world isn't it?
If you like that sort of thing then you'll no doubt have seen the XJS with the Citroen Xantia back end grafted on?
p.s just spent a few days up the road in beautiful Inistioge

Interesting looking thing but it appears a little 'shopped to me?
Yep.. in retrospect it does look a little "shopped" particularly as I couldn't find any info on it anywhere else but the boot shut line does look rather good...anyone?In the meantime..
I remember seeing Foxbat (XK150)at Woburn Abbey JDC Meet circa 1975 and I have a photo somewhere unless the ex has tipped it onto the bonfire
A couple of easy ones
Angryjock here's for you
AndrewBrew I def think you've "Top Trummped me"
And finally here's one for all you "ladieeees don't you know"...

I'm not that hot on FoMoCo products but I think I'm correct that the '60's Zodiac was produced by Abbots Farnham or was that the Friar(y ?) Cresta?
Anyway, came across this, it's in Australia but co-incidentally if you look at the advertisment to the right, there's a Zephyr Estate as well.
