Thankfully the vast majority of PH'ers are decent, reasonable human beings and wish Richard Hammond and his family well.

However, as usual these days, there are also the usual bunch of morons who pop up on these threads with idiotic and crass comments. Some people really are the dregs. I am sure they would find it hilarious if their own family were critically ill after an accident, or at least they wouldn't mind if we all cracked some jokes about it eh? rolleyes

The BBC haven't released any more informatin on the crash and their focus is on Richard's condition at the moment.

bollox, what they really mean is "our litigation department are scrutinising the details"

What unpleasant minds you people have got rolleyes

What it means is potentially much more awful than that - it means they're waiting for his wife to get there. They don't wait for the next-of-kin to arrive in order to release good news.

Have a bit of respect and consideration for him, his family and friends will you? For them, this is the day you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. Please God that he pulls through ok.

I really, really hope you are wrong.

Nothing to suggest he is human

That attitude is just beyond me. I've never met you before and likely never will, but despite this I would still care if I heard you were involved in a nasty accident, despite the filth you've just posted. I would care because that's what us human beings do, we care about each other (or are supposed to anyway).

Exactly my point, eloquently put.

I guess some people really are just self-centred, cynical to$$ers, and undeserving of any consideration at all.

But for the reasons you named, I would still feel sympathy if I heard they had been badly hurt.

It would be great if Ted could send some flowers from us all here. If he has a paypal account I would gladly chip in.

Can you do anything Ted?

OK - well unless Ted says he'll organise something, or I'm told to do otherwise, I'll go ahead. Tallbloke, if you gave me details of a flowershop that takes Mastercard and is handy for you, you could collect the flowers (make sure they're OK) that I buy and oversee delivery and the inclusion of everyone's best wishes. Sound like a plan?

Cool, but best keep it to the card with a printout of a GWS thread pasted in for now, because they won't take flowers in the ICU.

May I suggest a collection for the Yorkshire air ambulance which saved his life instead?

It relies on our donations to keep going, and My bike club donates every year. £500 from our annual rally takings this time.

An excellent idea. If Ted can set up a Paypal account we can all make some contributions, then they will come from the PH collective.

Just reading his profile up on the BBC site.

Hammond would be very upset.

They claim he owns a Porsche 928 - I'm sure he has a 911.

If Top Gear was cancelled by the BBC, what would be stopping Hammond, Clarkson and May from going over to say, Sky, and starting up a similar program?

Nothing I should think.

Sky would probably double their salaries too.

If the BBC is stupid and short-sighted enough to axe or curtail "Top Gear", I hope they do move, and take the entire, highly talented production team with them.

Is this thread on its way to outdo the Connery thread?

Perhaps after Hammond is well again we can do that formula thing that some poster invented a while back to see who has the highest average number of responses to a thread they started?

hehe

(Of course, I would rather that this thread didn't exist at all. But I am sure from here on in, only good things will come as a result of Richard's accident - truly a silver lining to a very dark cloud.)

First post, apologies if this already discussed.
Well done for starting this appeal. After making my donation, I noticed in the small print, Justgiving keep 5% of gross donations. If this is correct, can they be persauded to donate some of it?

5%?

That does seem quite a lot. I suppose they do have a business to run....

Wouldn't "Speed Matters" make an excellent strapline for YAA? I can picture it on their logo now ...

Quality...

Do bear in mind that the YAA does also raise a couple of million quid per annum from other sources...

Lets not get too carried away.

You have possibly the cheasiest music on your website I have ever heard. Well, since I last visited (under suffrance) the East Herts Modern Organ Club with my Dad some years back anyhow.

A good effort - but I won't click the BB links as my anti-crap software in my head won't let me.
