While wandering around our local park yesterday a chav couple walked in front of us, and my girlfriend suddenly started laughing at something.

The girl chav had a Kanji tattoo in the middle of her back, and she explained it means "hentai" which basically means strange/ perverted - although it's quite similar to the Kanji for love. Whoever did this tattoo had got them mixed up (or did a bad job) and this girl now has a chav-branding telling everyone she's a very strange perv. I did wonder if it was intentional but she didn't seem the type.

We see a lot of these kanji tattoos and they hardly ever make sense - a friend of ours has the Kanji for 'woman' on her back. Just in case people can't see for themselves? scratchchin

Does anyone here have one and do you know what it means?

No I don't think all tattoos are chav, as long as they are tasteful and reasonably discreet I don't see anything wrong with them.

I had my sons name put together in kanji for tattooing onto my right shoulder. I did a bit of research to check the kanji came out correct, and then had it confirmed by colleagues (I was working at a Japanese company when I had it done).

But with any of these foreign characters its way too open for abuse by tattooists who don't really give a st.
if its your sons name, and I presume he is English speaking, why not just get it spelt in English. Whacking it down in china town aint giving it no more cred than a dad turning up to pick him up from school in a Vaxhall Nova with 21 inch spinners
Kanji is Chinese script, so:
- unless your sons name is Chinese, there isnt going to be a Chinese word for it
- Checking with someone Japanese would be of little to fk all use seeing as they pronounce the same characters completely different from the Chinese.

To form a western name in Japanese text, katakana would be used.

Debating putting my name in katakana on my upper arm as the actual script and characters in it look good (imo, and thats the opinion that matters seeing as its my arm) and its a nice reminder of my time in Japan. I can also be quite reassured that it is my name being that the Japanese banks and immigration authority arent known for their sense of humour and its their translation of my name I'd be using hehe
Kanji is originally chinese, but its used in the current japanese logographic writing system.
Kanji is Chinese, symbols of which are used in Japanese. Katakana is cut down kanji to phoneticise (real word?...anyone's guess) words in to Japanese.

A Chinese person might put a western name in to Kanji, a Japanese person really wouldnt.
yes A western person might use Kanji on a stamp (Japanese equivalent of a signature) if they happen to be staying in Japan for any length of time, it might have some meaning, it might not.

I was wondering how long before the utterly, utterly predictable "I don't like tattoos myself blah blah...." post appeared on a thread about tattoos.
Wow. Since when did it become illegal to balance a discussion?
So, I can go on a TVR forum and state "I don't actually like TVRs, imagine what they'll look like in 40 years, all rusty and knackered" and it will be taken as a balancing statement will it???

Jeez, if they don't like tattoos what the hell do people even OPEN a tattoo thread for???? Seriously, do you sort of guys come in just to have a dig?

Shall I go to the Kit Car forum and tell them all I don't like kit cars, or the Jag forum and tell them they are rubbish????

confused
The thread wasn't opened to have a dig at tattoos, just one particular muppet - but people can dislike them if they want.

I stand corrected i took time to read the whole post and seen chav-branding!
That was only in reference to her particular tattoo, some of my best friends/ family have tattoos and not all of them are chavs.

thing is if you were to just pluck 1000 people with or without tats off the street of london they would probably fall into the same category.
Odds would be lessened....
if you did it in the square mile half would probably be builders and the other half brokers filthy female office workers with arse antlers.

ETA One of my tattoos reads 'Sua Cuique Voluptas', there are other reasons for it, but I always find it appropriate when these threads arise.
Is it in a gothic font?

Quite. However, I think for too many people they're a fashion statement too far. They get them because some magazine or other told them to.

I think the saddest ones are the Disney characters. You're effectively branding yourself as the product of some big American corporation.
Get a life! It's easy to walk down the street and pick holes in people. Then to come on to a MB and lord it. Who the fk do you think you are?
How about this for an assumption. In my experience the sort of person who constantly points out what he believes to be some ones bad points is trying to mask their own insecurities. I bet the first to point out typo’s and spelling mistakes on the MB. I also would imagine your quite ugly or have a very small penis. And probably bullied at school……It’s a shame the guy didn’t hear you turn around and give you a proper spanking geek boy. Or you could grow some balls and take the piss out of them to their face!!
To whom are you directing that rant?

Sorry I thought it obvious. The Hyacinth Bucket of the message board. You!
The story it's self was funny and if told without bias would have opened some good debate. But for you to label them Chav's and Lord above them like you’re some kind of fashion/culture guru.
I have met a lot of people in my time and it's probably fair to say you could pigeon hole a good percentage of them. However time and time again I have had my own stereotypes challenged to the point now I try and take people on face value.

A good example: Middle aged man in a suit works for the local council in a very senior position. Really articulate fascinating and intelligent. He is an avid fund raiser campaigner for a children’s charity. Under his suit from his ankle to his collar line is covered in tattoos. All completed by a bell end and sack piercing.

I am thinking of getting a tattoo done

Kiss my ass, tattooed on my ASS………. is that discreet enough for you!
You obviously haven't read the thread properly as I've stated already that I have nothing fundamentally against tattoos, only stupid or cheesey ones that either don't make sense or make the person look like an idiot. I have considered a tattoo myself...

So your rant is rather pointless (hence why I had to ask who it was directed at).Now be a good boy and log in under your real name.

A chav couple!! Based on a dodgy tattoo? Tell me would if you had to addressed them would you call them Chav couple to their face? I doubt it.
Your making the assumption that I called her a chav because of the tattoo, when in fact, I didn't.

Why would I call them a chav couple to their face?

You see fit to call them chav behind their backs? why not to their face?

In my opinion to describe a complete stranger in a disparaging manner is extremely conceited.
You're suggesting I randomly start conversations with people I have no desire to associate with, purely to tell them I think they're a chav?

Is that right?

Stop trolling or get professional help for that inferiority complex.

Hey, your right I am trolling!! (I had to Google it) You live and learn? Well some of us.

Thanks for the tip! I have called the shrink already.

I am going to my happy place now............Your mums
Either you signed up purely for this or you're posting under a pseudonym - either way that makes you a... loser If it is a pseudonym, it kind of blows your 'tell it to their face' argument into a million pieces of irony. hehe
