Well I've bought one, first PH car and first step above £500 cars so I'm nervous yet excited all at the same time.

So what is it? 2007 9-5 estate 2.0T Biopower
Picking it up tomorrow.

Will Hopefully get some pics up soon but here is a link to dealer website. Didn't pay that price either far from it.

Had it nearly 4 weeks now absolutely love it done 2.5k in it absolutely effortless. Need to get it booked in at motorvation SAAB in Tonbridge, needs a good service as I'm unsure when it was last done, also while it's there want to have some niggles sorted, mainly the auto adjust headlights believe its a sensor on rear axle and also the security modules battery is flat, which I can live with unless its a reasonable priced fix.

So far I've..
  • Put two new Conti sports on
  • Got my hands on a OEM SAAB bootliner and dog guard (cost me a bottle of wine thanks Christmas on SAABscene)
To do..
  • Service + niggles
  • Fit a detachable tow bar
  • Fit two more Conti sports opposed to the rubbish the dealer put on
  • Maybe in the summer take it to Noobtune
  • Finally in the summer potential get the wheels re-furbed.

Will update with some photo's soon been to busy driving it as I realise the webpage has been removed that is linked.

  • still only got dealer photo's

As requested a few more pics. Just to make it clear it was cleaned Monday this week and Friday last, but really isn't that clean!

Apparently the red stripes give it an extra 30BHP!

Really not trying hard enough!

What it should look like in summer when tow bar is fitted!

Just an update it's booked in to Motorvation SAAB in Tonbridge a week on Tuesday should get the few niggles sorted and the desperately needed service!

Big thank you to the guys at Motorvation SAAB, took it there first thing yesterday morning, picked up their loan 95 2.3t. Rang them in the afternoon was told it was ready to collect at 5.30, set off across from Ashford, got lost rang them to say I wasn't going to be there by half 5, no issues at all. Had a good 20 minute chat with them about the car and what the next steps would be with it.

They sorted out all the niggles I'd asked them to and explained what they'd done to fix them. The car also seems to run a lot smoother, which if hadn't been serviced or hadn't had a plug chance since the last stamp it was 20k over due!!!

Regarding price it, not sure how it really compares as I'd normally, do the service myself as we have a ramp at home, but I was happy with what the charged and it has just renewed the service book.

All in all, would certainly use them again and recommend them to anyone else! Unfortunately I'm moving back up to Worcestershire beginning of next month!, so if anyone knows a good specialist in Worcestershire or surrounding area. Let us know as I want to keep on top of the car and not just kill it off like previous cars!

Thought this was due an update.

So what's changed;
Ended up putting another 4 conti's
Managed to fit a detachable Thulme tow bar.
Have had a little bit of body work done, some idiot (me) managed to back a trailer into my own car while at work also replaced the cracked wing mirror.
Sent it to Classic 900 in Hull to have a couple of niggles and wanted to get it chipped, unfortunately they highlighted the fact vacume pipe had split, so was unable to chip it, ran out of time.

The next steps which any advice would be appreciated;
Think the brakes and suspension needs a refresh, which seems a good time to update and upgrade.
Would also like to get it chipped, friend has 9-3 2.0t aero saloon pushing about 250bhp so there or above would be quite nice.

She now has 90k on the clock averaging about 23 mpg. Still absolutely loving it.

Tried to get it over to Karl, but couldn't find a date we could both do. It will happen like I said i'm well behind on a mates 9-3 2.0T aero.

While I think the chrome tint looks good. It's not something I could do with my car, especially as it's black and I couldn't even remove the red pinstripe, which I really disliked when I bought it.

Hi and that's a great looking car.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
Just wondering what towbar you fitted?
I'm thinking of one for my 9-5 estate.
A detachable one sounds like a great idea.
Thought i'd get some photos before I replied. What I fitted (with someone who is a lot less scared of taking body panels off) was a Thule detachable it cost £200 from Hedley's towing Centre in Durham. I really struggled finding a detachable tow bar that didn't need the bumper being cut, especially in the time frame I had.

As you can see although it was advised to cut the bumper for this tow bar you don't need too.

Although when you remove the tow bar and place the cover on, it is against the bumper My plan was/is to shave the cover to stop it doing this, but as you can see its already deformed my bumper.

Fitting wise it was a real PITA, I fitted the tow bar to my old mondeo easily by myself. I wouldn't have attempted to do this one by myself in actual fact I wish I'd paid someone else to do as it took til 1 in the morning to finish after work one night.

Wondering if anyone can help me, so I took a few mates out the other day ( apparently it's surprising to have heated seats in the back of a hearse).

What I was more concerned about was how badly the car drove, with 5 people in it felt like the arse was completely on the floor, which was only confirmed when I got out at the garage.

I'm fairly sure it just needs a bit of a suspension refresh what sort of age/mileage is this normally advised.

Like I posted before its an 07 with just over 90k on.

Also just to confirm it wasn't the rugby front 5.

QBee said:
The problem could be:

dampers shot
springs broken
needed more air in the tyres (see the manufacturer's guide)
are your tyres 94 load rating or 97 XL? The latter suit these cars better.

If you are going to be towing or carrying passengers regularly and the above don't fix it, you could fit stiffer springs.
Thank you QBee,
I've checked most of what you've said apart from Dampers. It's definitely more than tyre pressure as you can see the wheels tucking under the rear arches.

What springs have others used? I don't know whether to go OEM spec or uprate with after market ones.

Having said that all is on old as my alternator packed up last week, so little fund left in the car account.

Just looking back through this thread, forgot what my car looked like clean...

Anyway i'll update the financial implication of running a SAAB 9-5 which is getting close to 100,000 in the new year as it's booked into Classic 900 in the new year for a once over and services.

But i'm going to visit a couple of friends tomorrow who live in CUMBRIA! Which apparently is a bit wet at present would anyone be able to give me a quick answer as to where the air intake is because the last thing I want to do is bugger up the engine having invested sooo much money in the old girl recently...

Right this really is due an update...
So she's just ticke over 96k and the bills keep coming.

First off at the end of last year Novemberish the alternator went, managed to get hold of a warrented recondishend bosch unit. So I had Waymills Garage, Whitchurch fit that, as I was still at uni. At cost £300 excluding labour.

Next at the end of Christmas term, I had booked her in with Classic 900 in Hull, back at my parents, was trying to hold off spending money before then, but of course she had other plans, new pads on the front, just so I could get it home, without risking the disks.

So on the way home, engine management light came on, rang classic 900 to confirm my booking at the beginning of Jan mentioned the EML, this was at 10am Christmas eve. They said if I got there before half 11 they would plug it in and tell me what it was at a couple of 1000 miles to do over Christmas. Got there in time plugged it in. Direct ignition cassette, fortunately they had a genuine SAAB one in stock (£250ish), fitted there and then. Before lunch on Christmas Eve. Great service!

Right Christmas done, back to classic 900 for service and few bits and bobs. Mainly managed to save the front discs, scrapped the back ones. New pads new disk pleas handbrake mec. Another £400 but the car came back feeling good.

I think that was it until Tuesday night. Knowing I needed two new tyres on the front, thought i'd replace them with something a little more hard wearing. That was until I got a puncher on the rear, hitting a pothole, in the dark on a country lane. So that would now actually be a full set. Settled on some Bridgestone another £335.00.

So their we go lots of money (as student) spent on my car, what else is a student loan for!?
