I have a build thread on seloc but thought you guys would appreciate this

Car is a CAT C 111S 47k miles that i bought with 95% of all the bits needed to get back on the road

It was crashed in France, aquaplained onto a crash barrier taking the fron crash box clean off and damage to both clamshells but no chassis damage wink

The original plan was to build a 350bhp k series engine, i used to have a 1.4 k in my rover 100 that was 292.8bhp and 250lbft but it was relatively laggy. The 1.8 is a fantatsic engine but once above 350bhp it starts getting issues mainly the liners and also very expensive cost was about £8k to do this properly

Roverdose who built my 1.4 also builds t series and a couple of conversions have been done but these were to std 200bhp ish.

I am not a fan of the honda conversion, although quick, i dont want to be worrying about the driveshafts. And the audi just looks plainly complicated for an idiot like me

So Roverdose mentioned the T series, a little bit of digging and i found a forged engine (std crank is good for 500bhp) for good money that was running 350bhp. Took it for a spin in a 620TI and money swapped hands !

The engine had a huge GT3076 and custom exhaust that i sold with the DTA E48 ecu for half the cost

Elise then had the 160vvc engine removed with the G6 box and engine loom and sold for the same price as the rest of the forged T series smile

The i called Grant at ww.GB-ent.co.uk who is a T series guru and procurer of all custom bits you could require. Gizzmo boost controller, davis craig electric pump, re-circ dump valve, wide band controller. T series flange

I also had a custom manifold made for the k series turbo i was building, this can be tweeked to suit the T series and will be good for 500bhp wink

T series engine is now sat in the engine bay, the gearbox is the same PG1 but is an uprated turbo version with a type B torsen ATB C6 ratio

Sits a little close to the original engine mount but should be able to do a mount to suit

Plenty of room for a nice turbo !

Speaking of nice turbo i purchased this again from GB Enterprises a GTX2867, chosen as it should spool the same, marginally slower, than a GT2860RS but will blow enough air for over 450bhp ie same as a 76mm turbo. It is also a lot more efficient so will provide cooler air wink

Purchased a DTA S80, few reasons why, it has traction control / launch control that works, has a decent boost control rpm and boost related, and its easy to build into a multiscreen dash if required.

And thats as far as i have got, should be done by end of september for the same price including the car as the audi 350bhp conversion

Engine mount was made today, used the existing 620 turbo mount and modded to suit the std elise one

Will see how this gets on as the std mount is not known for its torque holding capability but the vibratechnics ones are smile

Thanks for comments so far

Anyway, back on track i bought some extra bits today

GAZ Gold Pro, I know most go for Nitrons but GAZ did a lot of work with me on the Metro Suspension plus got a very good price

I have looked into 308mm brakes and i just cant see why the ali belled ap brakes are nearly 700, so i did a little digging and the vauxhall astra has some 308mm discs as std so found a pair of drilled and grooved that i can have drilled to 4 x 100 and get an insert for the brakes that will take them from 70mm centre bore to 56.6mm. Delivered for £150 a set. Offset is only 2mm different

Magnecore 8mm HT leads

Also called Vibratechnics and had a chat so got some uprated engine mounts, the engine mount being slightly stronger to take the extra weight

Its an additional extra i thought i would engineer in......wont be any heat getting through the baulkhead

Couple of bits turned up today

Gaz Gold Pro from junks thank you sir
3" 200 cell cat rated to 400bhp
Vibratechnics engine mounts for k series but using the motorsport harder compound for the engine

Oil cooler is next problem the 620 oil pump doesn't have any tappings for the cooler and they are in the wrong place so looks likely to be a remote filter with cooler attached

Got a couple of extra naca ducts and bought a 4 inch inline fan to circulate air when stationary or higher temps

Also got a turbo blanket as it was cheap

You have driven an Elise, right...?!
No, never driven one. Other than reversing a white one out the way tks get mine on a trailer. Didn't want to as that way I don't know what I will be ruining

But it still won't get hot ;-)

T series weighs about 15 kg more than the Honda and about the same less than the Audi

Engine and box is about 185kg, 200 std but I have removed the heavy flywheel and pas pump etc.

Don't see many people moaning about their Honda cars being too heavy.

Also as said I purposely didn't drive an Elise. Friend has 340r which I have taken round knockhill and that's it. That way I won't spoil anything.

3 inch down pipe was made yesterday nice tight fit but it's in

K and gearbox weigh about 140 so adding 40kg plus 20kg in other bits like charge cooler etc. Idea is to be as close to the 860Kg of the Toyota cars.

The pg1 fits to the t but it's got a different bell housing so the gear linkage needs modding but that's been done. The pg1 is good for 400BHP once steel caged bearings are added. The uprated version also has an additional bearing over the Elise one. Plus mine has c6 ratios and a type b torsen diff

The t series has bee taken up to 800bhp above 550 you need a forged crank

Ok cut the firewall today, actuator needed to go on the otherside so thought it best to cut out the panel for a bit of extra room and also ease of inspection of the turbo as it will be engine out otherwise

Gearbox sits on the same mounts but about 25mm further towards the passenger wheel so the gear linkage needed a little tweak

Vibratechnics mounts are in, spoke with Phil today and he is happy with the way its in. even mentioned the drivers side engine mount is used on the supras and 700lbft so should be ok (y)

But, bought a new toy, its called the S-dash. I am not a fan of lots of gauges in a car, esp when on a mission as its the last thing you look at, i loved my DASH2 in the metro as it had hi-lo alarms but didnt want to change the std stack on the elise to keep the car looking std as possible.

So Drew at Roverdose showed me this S-Dash made by a guy in Belgium. It plugs into the DTA (one of the reasons i bought the dta) and can show 48 channels of information. Basically everything the DTA can see if will show and it has HI-LO alarms that can be configured to rpm, temp etc

So above 12.5 AFR above 6000rpm below 15 AFR below 10% throttle etc

It also has shift lights built in, is a data logger with 8mb memory, can hold 8 maps downloadable in 5 secs and an easy wipe screen incase i get any more excited :wub :up

Thanks for the messages to say it's been emotional is an understatement as I am now a dad !

The exhaust is in. Its 3" to after the cat then splits to twin 3" I did think about twin cats but heat and extra restriction put me off. Exit should use the std lotus tail pipes :-)

Is the conversion encroaching into the boot space at all?
.
Depending on space I may put the charge cooler in the boot, but other than that no.

Have you though about getting that manifold cut and re-welded? Could save a good length of pipework.
No real need as the speed air moves I'd save 0.1 second

Very little run for the boosted air compared to say an intercooler

Junks it's your fault, std would be no fun ;-)

Things have been a little slow due to baby and a job promotion but back on track

Suspension is on brakes fitted, ap 4 pots but with 308mm solid discs from a vectra not pretty but at 125 a set drilled and spigot type insert I had to try it. Braided all the pipes too

Dta has lots of features one is launch and traction control which is four channel so had to mill some marks into the disks.

Will also give speed to the ecu so I can trigger radiator fans and engine bay fan to come on at low speeds to counter act heat soak

Loom is made and engine should be running this week

Custom dash little bigger than I wanted but should be ok

Dash displays all parameters on the ecu

Three buttons are launch control, wet / dry traction and on/off traction control

Two potentiometers control variable boost 11psi to 29psi and variable traction control

Just got the call, didnt have time to do all of the mapping but so far i am more than happy

First proper run it made 260bhp at 6500rpm, but was boosting higher than the 11psi at 14psi

timing was knocked back a little to lower the boost and it made 290bhp at 6500rpm max torque of 281lbft at 5400rpm and torque at 3000rpm was 210lbft :brum

at 2500rpm it was making 7psi, torque is very flat from 3000rpm to 5500rpm at around 280lbft

Should be finished off on Monday, where the boost will get turned up a little more (29psi max) and cam timings will be changed to get it to rev past 7000rpm, preferably 7500rpm
