Hi guys. My lights have been switching on while the car is parked and locked. Finally after some really bad advice from the AA we found the problem was the multi functional control unit. Found 1 at Bell and Coalville and asked the service guy where it was located and his reply was its in the cabin behind drivers seat. Well I can't see it and I can't see any wires apart from speaker wires.

How much of the car do I have to strip away to find it? And, where is it?

Many thanks

Alex

Thanks for the reply. Between my local garage, AA and an mobile auto electrician they have all got it wrong and cost me serious money. The first thing I recommended was the light switch was faulty but no one listened.

Thanks again

Still not working. Started it this morning to take it to garage and have a few new problems. Getting engine management light and ABS warning lights come up on dash. Also have no speedo now. Changed the switch control module and the multi functional control unit in an attempt to cure it all with no success. Also my immobliser packed up working and the 2 new batterys i brought from halfords were both dead. Managed to get another immobliser battery to work after stressing out a bit.

Well thats me all out of ideas, have lots more serious problems now than when I started. When and if i get it sorted i'll pop back and let you know what was causing all the problems.

Here is a list of whats its NOT so you dont make the same mistakes: - Battery (£80), Alternator (£400 fitted), Multi functional control unit (£100), Switch controller module (£100), Mobile Auto Electrician to diagnose problem (£30) weeping

Any advice is appreciated and "dont buy a Lotus" is already logged so dont worry about that 1.

Cheers Guys

Alex

I'm sure you have hit the nail on the head. Car is kept outside and driven everyday. The original issue started with just lights coming on while parked and not being able to turn them off. The 2 times it did happen it rained the night before. I found a local specialist a kind of man with beard that knows each part my number not name and works out of a shed, a real enthusiast. Taking it to him Monday, if he can't fix it it's main dealer robbery for me.

Hi Piers and thanks for your reply. I have approached a few but they all tell me Lotus keep the diagnostic equipment for selected garages, only main dealers I'm told.

I'm based in Dartford, Kent but it drives fine so I can get it to places.

Main issues are now. ABS and Engine Lights are on, engine nearly dies when you press clutch in and most of the time recovers fine but does stall sometimes.
