Hi All,

went out to start my car this morning all frozen up, only to discover that when I turn the inside fan on nothing seems to happen!

It seemed ok yesterday, any ideas what I can check to resolve ?

sorry I should specify that it's a 56 plate S2 - could it be a fuse or something ?

Ok so had a chat with Max at Lakeside, who walked me through it.
Basically I'm looking at £650.00 min for the work, not what I had hoped for I'll admit.

Does that sound reasonable ? Should I try anyone else ?

Hi,
well no actually I don't have aircon (didn't get the choice as it was the only red elise I could afford at the time!! :-))
Part is £90.00 (+vat? so prolly £100 is about right) then about £500 - £550 for the labour.

Just waiting to find out if they can pick the car up and drop it off...

well I did wonder if it was possible by removing the servo, but it all looks a bit shoe horned in so clam removal will give me an opportunity to check the state of the rad and the cooling fans.

Interestingly B&C have quoted me £600inc vat and parts and a pickup and drop off.
So why would I get Lakeside to do it when the main dealer can do it for £50 less and pick it up and drop it off for me!?

Another question I would have is why the hell these people don't have working email and IT systems... I sense an opportunity :-)

well it's all fan flipping tastic isn't it ?
Car picked up by B&C today, then get a call about the rear heat shield "falling off" another £330 odd to get that fixed.

Got told that the car is under warranty from the people I bought it from, contacted them who told me the heater was covered !! (hooray!!) B&C phone them and get told that the resistor pack isn't covered GRRRRRRR

Sometimes I hate this world...

I know and I know you're right... just venting... the warranty is actually really interesting...

My "policy" is a "4 Star" policy so pretty good you'd think....so what does it actually cover ? The reality is that they basically cover everything that is unlikely to go wrong... big surprise eh... words like paper and worth it's written on spring immediately to mind.

:-)

She should be back home on Friday with a bit of luck and a following wind... and for once a word about the main dealer Bell & Colville - Awesome service, good prices etc. I had a full and frank conversation with them regarding their prices etc and I have to say I've had 3 quotes for this work to date and they're the cheapest by a small difference but add to that a pick up and drop off, I have to say I'm impressed.

Now all they have to do is fit my tyres to my new alloys for free and I'll be singing their praises for a month!

Right well she's back from B&C and the blower now threatens to take my head off every time I turn it on !!! Awesome... bit like going to the opticians for the first time...

I also had to have the rear heat shield redone so was expecting a big bill but I have to say it was a lot lower than I'd expected basically they did the heater for just over £500 and the heat shield for about £350 AND put my old tyres on my new wheels AND dropped it back to me really impressed seems like the penny has dropped with one main dealer at least.

Stupid question time: Is it possible to fit the Lotus wheel badges to the new Team Dynamic 1.2's or do I have to buy new one's ?

Ahhhh how prophetic..... driving to work this morning stuck in a bit of traffic and the temperature gauge shows me 96,97,98,99,100 degrees then the rattle and slightly too mechanical sound of the rad fan kicking in (I mean audible in the car with the radio on!).

Got to work and didn't think to much of it.

Got in the car to drive home and now there's no traffic, I'm doing a steady 40 - 60 mph but the temperature is reading 99, 100, 101, 102 then the fan kicks in again and the temperature doesn't move, still 100 - 102 degrees. I get to football and have a look through the grill where the rad is and I can see it's wet... (tbh there's been the smell of cooling fluid since they dropped the car back to me, just figured it was where they'd drained the system and there was some residual)... checked the reservoir and it's empty!

I phoned B&C and Phil was very helpful..I've since refilled the reservoir with some water, though I noticed a wet patch next to the drivers side wheel. I will check again in the morning... things are never straightforward are they ?

I'm absolutely not paying for another clam off, there was nothing wrong with it before they took it off and they probably should have checked for leaks before it went back together....

I'm hopeful that having the car at B&C I'll get a main dealer response and they'll bend over backwards a bit for me, I will report back my experience...

I was also told that the cost of the repairs should be covered by the dealer I bought the car from since I only bought it on 31st Jan... so I've contacted them since the warranty covered nothing! Again I will let you know how I fair with Motor Village Bristol on that score...

Unfortunately this car is living up to it's L.O.T.U.S reputation!

Well I am hoping it's just a leak from where the pipe joins the rad top left.

Update for you all... Bristol chaps phoned me and offered me a good will gesture, which I thought was nice.
I should say however that the consumer law says;

If you buy a new or used car from a dealer and experience problems with it, you have some statutory rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. The Act states that the car must be “of a satisfactory quality”, “fit for purpose” and “as described”. (For a used car, “satisfactory quality” takes into account the car’s age and mileage.)

If the car you bought fails on any of these points within six months, you‘re entitled to have it repaired or replaced, or to get a partial or full refund.

So the question is.... is a resistor pack fault and a rear heat shield disintegration on a car that's done 18,000 miles "satisfactory quality" ? And is it likely these faults existed 2 months ago when I bought the car ?

I've asked them to improve their offer I will advise further !

yeah I suppose that is fair enough however as I'm in Basingstoke and they're in Bristol and the car with an iced up window (inside) and a defective heat shield that could have resulted in a fire (according to B&C) would mean that getting the car back to them (without any lotus repair expertise) would have been troublesome, so they'd have to have organised a trailer to pick the car up etc etc... so getting it repaired more locally would actually have been better for them too.

That said they are being very responsive to me and have asked to see the B&C paperwork. If they can offer any assistance I would be grateful.

nope not sorted... managed to get 3 miles down the road until it basically dumped the contents of the rad on the road... I managed to limp home stopping at least 3 or 4 times...

B&C say they're going to send someone out but not heard anything since about 9:45 this morning....

well B&C are on their way apparently... Bristol Motor Village doubled their offer and I think I can't say fairer than that, without the pain of a legal fight n all that and tbh I'm quite impressed with how quickly they've responded so credit where it's due.

I dunno what they're made of tbh... but if it's not leaking then that's a good thing.
I've heard about plastic end cap rads and how you're supposed to replace them with an aluminium rad but I don't really know anymore than that tbh.
