My TomTom has expired and while looking around for a replacement I've been pointed at a smartphone app called Waze. It's a sat nav but with the benefit of being updated by users in realtime. Things like traffic, speed cameras and accidents are all there so I'm going to give this a go for the week.

Anyone else use it and what have your experiences been?

After a week of using it I'm sold. Exceptionally quick, much faster than my 825 TomTom. Flush Belkin socket and 2m cable bought for the car so actually cheaper than getting a new dedicated SatNav.

The maps are downloaded around a decent radius and generally following your route too. GPS is all you real need and I can't say I've ever hit a blackhole in the 6 months I've been using it all over the country. The other thing to do, if you know you're going to be screwed is use Google Maps and cache the map route http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57594191-285/h...
