I've had a TomTom XL for about 4 or 5 years & it's still working very well. Over the past few months (and particularly in France) there were loads of "errors" in the map - junctions changed, new roads etc. Rather than bin it & buy a new one, I decided to update the maps via Tom Tom and pay the £50 for new maps.

IIRC I chose the "Western Europe" maps - basically the UK, France, Spain, Portugal & a few others including Netherlands, Belgium etc. The update was just under 2Gb - my Tom Tom XL is a 2Gb (no SD card slot) so it just fitted.

Only problem is, I used to get "in 200 yards turn right onto Corporation St" and now I get "in 200 yards turn right". To fix this, I need to download a voice which can speak the road names - only problem is because of the size of the update, I don't have any room on the device.

What I'd like to do is to free up some space - ideally I'd like to delete the countries I don't want - e.g. Belgium, but the update just came as "Western Europe" as a whole map.

Any suggestions, or am I just stuck with the non-road speaking voice?

TL:DR - anyway of freeing up space on a TomTom XL ?

Because I had to do a school project on Belgium when I was about 9 or 10 and came to the conclusion that I would never visit the place. Other kids got USA, Australia or Russia and I got Belgium because one of my Aunts lived in Brussels.

I am now 43 and have 2 rules in life - never go to Belgium and never trust anything with a head larger than mine - simple rules but ones that have served me well.

I've had a look but there's nothing obvious!

When it did the update, it basically formatted the old unit & installed the new maps - the download size was a tiny amount under 2Gb and that tallies up with how much space is left on the 2Gb unit. What's annoying is my old Tom Tom had the maps installed on an SD card so I'd have all the space I'd ever need if that was still the case as I could have stuck an 8Gb card in.
