Hi all ,

I've not posted in here before , although I've lurked a lot and have found the discussions in here helpful and informative smile

Here is a link to some video I took on a run through the Swiss Alps with some friends .

http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-9022886...

I'd be interested on your comments regarding my driving , especially considering the end of the video ( if you can be bothered to watch that far ) . No it's not a crash or anything .

There is more to say regarding the events at the end , but I don't want to bias any ones views ( sorry for being so cryptic smile )

I would say that I can spot a couple of mistakes myself paperbag

I think that most of my poor lane discipline is the result of me positioning my car to show the people behind me that the road is clear , you can't see that my indicator is on , it makes it easier for the following person to overtake . Although having explained it I wouldn't really excuse it or say that it's good driving .

My failure to observe the solid white lines were the some of the mistakes that I noticed myself boxedin

There were also a couple of aborted overtakes , I'd started to accelerate before being certain that the overtake was on .

My unnecessary move to the right was caused by me losing confidence that I had the overtake correctly , as I moved to the right I saw that the road was in fact clear and carried on with the overtake , not good frown

Having watched the part where I'm following the HGV I can see what you are saying regarding my rather elastic postioning , something to work on .

We were stopped , initially by the boarder police because , they said they had received many phone calls from other drivers complaining about a group of British driver behaving dangerously .

We were held for 30 mins or so until the traffic police turned up . When the traffic policeman turned up he asked to see the video , they could see the camera . I showed the video he said well it's a bit fast but not dangerous but we don't like that sort of thing in Switzerland so I'm going to escort you to Italy where they don't mind that sort of thing .....

Smiles all round , pictures taken with our group and the police and boarder patrol etc . Escorted out of the country at an interesting pace by the Traffic Officer ....

No problem with the off topic bit Reg , and thank you for your comments above .

The set up is a camcorder facing to the rear and a bullet camera sucker mounted on the roof recording to a hard drive video recorder .

The picture in picture is done after in the editing software , Adobe Premier Elements .

I'm no expert but have been trying to get some decent video of driving trips and trackdays for a couple of years ...

If you were to mount the camera outside the car and central on the roof with a similar sort of view to mine I think people would get a better view of the position of your car on the road .

The other point worth mentioning is that my bullet camera has a relatively wide angle lens .

Reading other peoples comments about your overtaking video I think it's difficult for some people to relate to the difference in the camera's view point and the drivers eye view .

It might be worth trying to mount the camera in the top right hand corner of the windscreen ? Might be closer to your drivers eye view ?

You can get mounts that would allow you to mount a camera looking over your shoulder , but I think that the view would be obstructed by your head , which sort of defeats the point really ......

I've found these people helpful and they have just about any bit you're likely to need - http://www.fastfilms.co.uk/
