I've had a slight knock on the old girl for a while now while driving on uneven roads and it's starting to annoy me.

I had to replace a top hose jubilee yesterday as it was leaking every where.

While I had my head under the bonnet I had a look at the nearside top mount. Which is where the knock comes from.

And I noticed this!!! As you can see it's right on the piss.

As opposed to the drivers side.

Any ideas?

I've got the feeling it's either a spring or strut knackered possibly both.

How difficult are they to change as I've got the MOT soon.

Also just realised I don't have a spring compressor. Looks like a job for my local garage.

Just for Mr. Fandango... the top mount assembly in order of removal...
So looking at that picture I need the seat on the far right.

But also the small rubber bush second from the left looks shot on mine.

Does the seat come with that?

If I've got to take the strut out might as well stick some lowering springs on.

There goes this months commission.

Oh, by the way, the 9mm i/d pipe that feeds the vacuum system for your brake servo has been routed the wrong way round your inlet manifold smile
Might be worth checking to see if that one way valve is still working wink

...and your aux belt needs changing smile
Hahaha you what. The what's the wrong way and what needs changing.

The car does sit well on those springs mind...

Wicked that looks awesome. My misses already complains about it crashing about so perhaps not then. Although that might be my driving! driving

So list of things to do is:

...Re root the vacuum pipe thingy and check the one way valve works

...Aux belt this also has a small annoying squeak come to think of it, thought it might be a belt. It's also about due a cam belt + tensioner so might leave that till then.

...Strut seat

I paid for my struts and spring seats to be done frown

For reference it cost me £225 labour (3hrs) to fit new rear struts (they were knackered), new front struts, front spring seats (they were falling apart) and strut mounts. That was on a C70 but should give you an idea of cost if you gave it to a garage to do. I supplied all the parts. I had thought about doing it myself but it was December and cold, wet and dark...
My garage also doesn't charge £75 a hour but thanks for the heads up.

That is a bummer.

I have a local garage we use a lot not a specialist but the family have used for years so can be trusted.

He'd probably charge me 20quid to change it.

But sometimes it nice to do things yourself.

Just depends if i cant be bothered or not

Why what have I done?

Is that a brand or supplier?

The ones I bought are made by KYB and are supplied by APD car parts.

Volvo in Leicester wanted £37.68 for the same from the parts department but it would mean me having to go pick it up so thought I'd go with this.

Will see what turns up Wednesday.

Just popped in to see the lads in the garage doing the MOT.

Turns out the ball joint on the anit-rollbar has completely sheered off.

It didn't fail on the strut seat! Hopefully that will stop the knocking.

I'll still do the strut seat at some point as I bought one anyway.

Will see later when I pick it up.

So turns out the strut seat was proper borked!!!!!!

Strangely it didn't fail on it at the MOT but the garage replaced it anyway as I already had the seat, they also had to replace the snail shell bit too.

Made a massive difference to the weight of the steering wheel and feels much more planted on the road now.

I'll get the off side done too at some point.

Yes pete (mechanic) said that the bearing plate wasn't but as I had a new one put it on anyway.

No only had the nearside done yesterday.

You can hear the off side now so will get the part and do it myself this time.
