If I can afford one (if there are some REALLY good discounts) then I'll have one to replace our 2005 D5 SE. We've had the D5 SE for a little over 7 years and it has taken my family and I all over the UK and Europe in comfort. Truth be told I'll be sad to see it go but the new model looks ace!
There will be NO discounts for the first 24 months at least, and dealers have been told by Volvo that if anyone is caught giving discounts they will have there allocation cut! the days of 10k off of XC90 are long gone I think!

Well just spent the morning in the Volvo dealers and they now a price and option list for the XC90, fully loaded T8 Inscription is coming out at 84k! Even a nicely specced D5 is pushing 70k, I'm off to see the car in a few weeks so will give feedback afterwards...

Well saw the car yesterday at the pre launch in Kent, its a stunning piece of kit, beautiful interior, the car was in crystal white with the amber interior, the boot is slightly larger with the 7 seats up, the console is great, D5 available from March and T8 from late summer, only 1500 cars coming to the uk next year.

Did it feel / look super bloated big like an Audi Q7, or more subtle big like a Range Rover Sport?

Also did you get a sense of how many of those 1500 cars they had sold?

Thanks!
its is a lot bigger then the old car but doesn't look it, certainly doesn't look as big as the RR sport or the Q7 its very subtle with lots of smooth edges, inside it beats both the FFRR and RRS for quality, spent a lot of time using the new controller which really is amazing, the quality of the leather really impressed, the car on display had the B&W audio system which really will set the bench mark for others to follow, the car on display was the T8 and there were lots of questions of real world fuel economy, and for town use they said that 80-100mpg is really achievable, less on long journey. The car on display had 22 inch wheels but they didnt look large on the car, the team who had come over from Sweden spoke a lot about the optional air suspension which they say for ride quality is class leading.
The rear 2 seats can easily fit adults, the big play was on safety features, an interesting point they made was that nobody has ever died in the current model XC90 in an accident, and they feel this is going to be one of the safest cars on the road. I know this car should compete with X5, Q7 and RRS but it was clear that they are going after FFRR customers in that mix a number of whom were there yesterday, with orders placed.
There will be a D4 FWD coming to the Uk later on that should bring the price down further.

The sat nav is superb, and is automatically updated with the latest software every 3 months, for the life of the car.

With regards to cars sold if you've not placed an order you will be unlikely to see a car next year, they also said that dealers had been instructed to offer no discounts and any dealer offering discounts in the first year would have there allocation withdrawn

This is the first time I've seen a manufacturer release this kind of accident statistics for their vehicle. Is this info in the public domain and why to manufacturers such as Volvo not back a bigger play of it?
Is it really possible that Volvo can make such a statement and be believed?

Surely they cannot have the sort of reliable statistics to do so?

How on earth could they have reported to them or otherwise available the extent of injuries and consequent survival or otherwise for every individual accident involving an XC90 anywhere in the world.

Volvo seem to have little interest presently in veracity in a number of areas in their desperation to be seen in a certain light in a number of areas.......

I've heard them state this as a goal by some date in the future. So perhaps it was a misinterpretation of that?

On the other hand, I do recall a documentary saying that Volvo log details of every accident in their cars so I guess it could be possible, but given how long the current XC90 has been around, I'd imagine unlikely.
The 2 points that were made, was the first that nobody has ever died in an accident in the current car and that they hope by 2020 that no person or pedestrian would be killed in a Volvo due to there passive and active safety features being launched into the range, they showed a number of videos and the safety on the new car seems almost unreal for today's age, effectively on the motorway this car is capable of braking, accelerating and steering itself, another point that was made was that the new car has only been in planning and got the go ahead in 2011, previous to that there was no funds or intention to replace the current car, I've actually ordered a D5 for March and a T8 for September and the car on display was the colour combination that i've ordered!
