Should I Buy an S40 R Design?

Evening all,
I'm looking for a new car and I'm looking for advice.
A change of job has forced me into looking for a diesel car. I'm currently driving a 2007 Astra SRI but it's not going to be any use for a 300 mile commute back home at the weekends.
I've budgeted around £6000 and I've spent the last week or so looking for ideas. I hadn't really thought about a Volvo, I'd been looking for an Insignia or Citroen C5. However, I've seen a 2008 2.0 R - design and it looks brilliant. More stylish than any of the other mundane saloons on the market.
I just wondered of anyone had any advice? What are they like on long journeys for economy, comfort etc.
Any advice or tips would be appreciated.
